fix the view of that impossible cigarrete. also, i would say lower the contrast of the hand. and make smoke look more like 'smoke'.

Starting at the bottom of the cigarette, we can see the ass end of the filter, suggesting that the the lit end is facing slightly away from us. Moving up, the transition line from filter to paper suggests the exact opposite perspective, that is the lit end is facing slightly towards us. The actual perspective of the lit end, though, appears to be more or less a straight-on side view (though it could be perceived as being somewhat in perspective to the filter-paper transition line) I think that's what he means by impossible cigarette Edited by Hatch - 18 June 2007 at 8:10pm |

Pick a light source and shade accordingly. Your piece has no light source. Or no obvious one.

Depends on what you're going for... if you want the hand to look more elegant (to contrast with the skull cloud), I would make the fingers a bit thinner, especially the one in the background, which is slightly bulbous.
I suggest making the nails a more uniform shape, and about the same length ... I'm assuming that the fingers are in profile. If, on the other hand (pun!) you intended for the fingers to be slightly turned from the viewer, it doesn't really make sense for the cig to be slightly turned toward the veiwer. Good luck on this ^_^ EDIT: the smoke could look more smoky as well... best to look up some references for that ^_^ Edited by MashPotato - 21 June 2007 at 6:47am |

and pls get rid of the gray background, it's not adding to the piece at all, if anything it just makes the smoke look worse

I had the fingers AA'ed onto the background because i found them too distracting if not AA'ed. Here it is with a transparent background.

You need more contrast. Also the dithering on the nails doesn't really do anything for the piece.
