Hello, new here.

been trooling around for a while now, trying to learn new tricks and admiring the skill most of you have at pixel art.

this is what I've been working on, starting to run out of ideas, any C&C would be apreciated.

   Small Edit 1

Edit, changed lamp shape & added shading.

changed walls, added restraints, other stuff. any CC?

Re-edit, softened the light, + fixed minor discrepencies.

Good start... how about a couple cops/soldiers around him?

I think the table should be closer to the guy (or vise versa) and of course there should be a cop or ..some authority official accross the table, probably standing up and facing the guy. also a one side window would be cool

I had tought about adding one of those mirrored windows, but I'm not sure how i'll go about creating one. I'll give it a try anyways.

another idea - in all the movies with rooms like this, the character always wakes up all confused. The whole point of having the lamp right above him is so that everyone could see him but he can't see anyone else (other than the person beating him, probably), so you should try adding more contrast. Really highlight everything under the lamp, and darken everything else, especially the corners.

Also, a little c/c: I may be wrong about this, so look for a second opinion, but the shape of the lamp suggests that a greater area should be lighter (shown in red)

But that's too big for the theme, so I'd change the shpe of the lamp a little (shown in yellow)Zoom in to see better .. just my opinion, anyone to agree or disagree?

P.S. The green was meant to be a circle, but I rushed and it's came out as an oval... then again you're looking from above, so it should be a subtle oval... makes sense?

I'm not down with the lighting at all. It is a cool scene though and it looks promising. I think more details need to be added... not saying to add more furnishings... just more details - such as the walls. The right side of the wall has lighter indentations while the left side has darker ones... what's up with that? Also, why is the dude sitting on the chair not handcuffed or tied up in some fashion? What's the guy holding? An anal probe?

Edit

the thing in the hand was supposed to be a club, although I can see the resemblance.

  • You definitely need a cop.
  • You could put a camera up in the corner.
  • I'd put an emergency light or sth like an exit plate above the door.
  • You could try a note board on the wall.

added a few things, red light above door, bulletin board on wall, another interrogator and added the missing shadows to the peeps and the display case.

That extra interrogator adds so much.  Gives it some nice depth and mystery.

you should make the guy on the left smoke. And give the victim some blood on his shirt. And if possible, have the light above swinging in an animation. That'd rock dude

added some blood to the victim's shirt and I addicted the guy on the left to nicotine.
I tried to animate the lamp but I came out looking horrible, truly horrible... so i gave up.

thanks all for the comments and crits, I dont think I would have taken it that far without them. I gonna give it another go at the animation tonight when I come back from work, I think if I remove the light comming out of the lamp it could work. If it dosent I'll leave it as is.

Ok here you go, the first image is the animation I said looked truly horrible.

and this is the the edited one, I still not satisfied with it, the animation looks choopy, I thinking either adding a couple frames in between the center position and the left/right positions to make it look smoother or scrapping the left/right frames and making the "swing" less pronounced. any toughts?

ps; sorry about the 2 animations not being synchronized, I'm new at animating.

also I just noticed this but how to you create the transparency, right now I'm using Easy GIF animator (evaluation)

I dunno... an extra frame or two certainly would help and it actually does look pretty good, but I kind of like the still lamp. How about a simple smoke animation?

Hmm.. could you make the lamp swing less (i.e. reduce the amplitude)?
I don't know if this is achievable at this scale.
Otherwise it looks good.

If you really want to make it realistic you would have to work on the shadows of almost all the objects in the room, including the two dudes (especially them). What I mean is, in the animation make them move along with the lamp and if you don't want to fix the angle of the tilt of the lamp try increasing the speed of fps. Maybe that will make it a bit more smoother. Very nice, good luck.

OK, I scrapped the swinging lamp, cause like zoomrix said, all the shadows would have to move in order for the animation to be realistic, and I don't think I have the skills yet to pull it off. I did animate the smoke comming off the cigarette.

p.s.: ok easy gif animator sucks....

Awww man, I liked that swinging animation.

How's this?

I wasn't coveting the Most joint revision title, but why not!
about the red light, I'm not keen on making it blink since It would negate the purpose of the lamp.

You need a 100x100 or smaller "small icon" for a preview to go along with your Joint apartment.
