Alright, I've had many issues concerning how colors display differently in the PS window and when saving for web, so I decided to create a thread to help people who haven't yet found out how to fix those problems on their own.

Q: I get a lot comments on how my art has strange colors - is either too dark, too light, has too much contrast, etc...

A: Your monitor isn't calibrated correctly. To calibrate your monitor, simply google "how to calibrate your monitor". If you have a mac, configure it in System Preferences>Displays>Color and click on the Calibrate... button.

Q: Images in the Photoshop window look different than they would on the web, yet the previews in the File>Save For Web... menu look fine.

A: You're probably working with strange color settings Photoshop installed by default on your computer. Go to the Edit menu and click on Color Settings..., then turn Color Management off in the big scrolldown menu. If colors still don't display correctly, go to View>Proof Setup... menu and choose Monitor RGB.

Q: Images in the Photoshop window display correctly, but Photoshop changes how my images look when I save for web!

A: Next to the Preset... menu is a little arrow button. Click on it, and untick Convert to sRGB. If you'd like to convert your Photoshop working window with the web result, click on the 2-up tab on the top left corner of the Save For Web... window.

---

Alright, that's all I know so far. If anything has something to add to this please do! I've searched on many forums and found nothing concerning these issues that seem to be pretty common.

There is a fine calibration image Ensellitis posted just above this thread. 100% manual 1,000,000% awesome.

I will also add that when you first make a new PS file the profile at the very bottom should be the same as when using 'save for web' and ImageReady, they are NOT by default( drastic changes happen here!!!!) Going thru the prefes and changing all 3 to match web standards is a must for PS users.

Remember, PS is a very complex program. For pixelart use, you have to dumb it down to the bones.
