I originally posted the below offer as unpaid but quickly realized that with the amount of talent around here and the work available, I was not likely to ever get a hit. So that said I am offering to pay a one time fee for the right to use a very limited set of pixel art, most likely a background and at most one animated sprite.
It does not have to be created for me, if you have something lying around your collection that I like, and that you have no plans to ever use, this could be a great way to make a few bucks off of it. I don't have a great appreciation for value of work here but I am limited to a hundred dollars or so, perhaps a bit more at most. I am a developer with 14 years of coding experience, including games, gfx and AI. I am currently doing home brew development on the Nintendo DS console but lack any artistic skills whatsoever. I would like to collaborate on a very basic demo or proof of concept of a game with 1 artist. I realize a lot of people here have great talent and probably busy with paid work, so I am not looking for a huge commitment, it can be as simple as a background image and a few animated sprites. I will code up a mini-game based on this and naturally it will not be a for profit enterprise, since the Nintendo DS is a closed platform. That said it is fully legal to use open source home brew tools to write code for this and if you've ever wanted to see your work on a console but not have had the chance, this could be a fun low stress opportunity.
