![]() Topic: Beach Pixel (WIP)Posted: 19 November 2007 at 2:17pm |

Well, someone on another forum asked me to do a beach pixel for them. I've been having some trouble with it, so I need some advice. So, well here is my pixel of it so far.
![]() Here the reference picture the person gave me. http://www.adrhi.com/Sunset-Beach.jpg I know the water doesn't really look, umm, real I guess you would say, but that's just how I like to make it personally. :S I'm having trouble with doing the sand, so any help and advice on that is appreciated. I'm currently working on the trees in the background. Any other advice given is appreciated as well. I haven't worked on this piece for a while yet, and I have a lot of homework to do, so I probably won't be working on this as much as I would like to. Edited by Broli - 19 November 2007 at 3:25pm |

Could you check out that ref link? It's the same as the image you posted.
It looks like you're copying JPEG artifacts as well or something; step back from copying the ref and try to emulate its setting and mood and the like.
As for the sand, put in a few dunes and shade them according to the position of the sun. Maybe look for some sand dune refs yourself?

Oops, didn't notice I pasted the same image. > < I'll fix that shortly. Also, not sure what you mean by a JPEG artifact, and I hope you don't mean by "copy" as in tracing. I can assure you I didn't do that, although my pixel will look similar to the reference. I just don't like going out of my comfort zone if I have a reference and try to make it my own, it just doesn't seem like I would get a better outcome. But anyways, thanks, I'll take into consideration for the sand. It may be hard, but at least I can learn something new. :D Thanks for your reply.

I was just making a guess based on the triangular areas of darker beach; they looked like they might've been compression artifacts mistaken for real features but now that you post the ref I'm not sure what's up with them.

Oh, lol. That was an attempt at making some shading in the sand. :S I think I may get rid of them and just consider what you said about making just dunes in the sand. But not too many since it may look unnatural. Thanks again for your inputs. :)
