This job has already been taken. Company: Obs, a tiny little SEI level 1 company working in our spare time.
Job: The initial task here is for exactly 2 sprites. They will be one of the most common sprites in the game and one that players will identify with the most, so its important for them to be high quality. The sprites are basically that of humans and there are some important guidelines to keep in mind if you decide to create these sprites.
Here is a picture for reference:
![]() The left is a male, the right is a female These sprites have no animation, they simply remain static, and in the game's code we alter their direction to face left and right when necessary. The game applies hair, clothes and armor to the sprites through a layering system so these base sprites should be nude and bald headed.
Now the example picture is of course terrible but it has some important implications:
First, notice the hands of the humans are about halfway down their body and slightly bent like if they COULD be holding something, but not really. It is important for the hands to be positioned something like this because as the player picks up items the sprite can hold it in his hands and have it look natural. The female and male sprite also have their hands in the same locations in the image, so that tools picked up by a male or female do not have to differentiate between the gender to display their "equipped" graphic.
Second, the skin color of these example images has an important value. It is the midpoint RGB value of all the possible skin color types. A player can choose his skin by increasing the RGB values in increments of R:4, G:3.6 and B:3.2. This special midpoint value is (158, 117, 76) and it should be used as a base rgb color value for the sprite.
Third, the sprite fills the entire length of the 32x32 box. There is no need to leave room for hair because hair will be added on top of the sprite, and then shifted upward a few pixels so it can sit on the top of the human's head. Hair will be removed temporarily when helmets are equipped.
Fourth, the female sprite's outline can be contained within the male sprite's outline. Now, males and female sprites WILL have different graphics for the same clothes in many cases, but in some cases certain clothes like spacesuits will simply use the same graphic for both genders. In these cases, it is important to ensure compatibility by keeping the outlines compatible. Basically a female sprite should always be able to wear what a male sprite can wear, but a male can only fit in male designed things. This is due to the male's bulkier look.
3. Payment will be handled through Paypal. Due to the nature of the complexity of our sprites we are paying $8 per 32x32 image.
4. If you are interested send an email to DeviantHands@gmail.com with requested salary and some examples of past work you've done or a link to a resume or whatever you wish. Also ask any questions you may have about this work.
5. We do not have a website but are in the process of securing a domain name. This domain name is unused, and google searches turn up 0 matches for the name.
6. We have no past. Only a future.
