This position has now been filled, thanks to all who applied.

Hey I’m looking to get some quotes for art for a flash based, single player space invaders style game I’ve been working on. I’m looking for someone to do all the art for it (Title Screen, player and invader sprites, HUD etc). This will all be 32 bit pixel art with alpha, not flash vectory stuff. If you want to quote just on certain sections you are better at (Eg. Just the backgrounds), then feel free to send me a quote as well and maybe i can string together a few artists to do it all.

I think I’ll be looking to use some kind of standard pixel font for the in game text, such as: http://www.dsg4.com/04/extra/bitmap/. Maybe with some kind of gradient tint on it, but I can manage that.

Here’s some screens of how the game currently looks, note all this art is by a programmer so it's all to be changed.

Art needed:
  Title Screen
   - 240x320 static image.
   - With the game name I’ve yet to decide.
   - There will probably be text written over this. Credits, “Click to start” etc. Drawn ingame.
  Background
   - 240x320
   - A single static background.
   - Probably a nice starscape, see the first style reference image.
  Win Screen
   - 240x320 static image.
   - Some kind of gift to the player for putting up with my game. Maybe a picture of a hot babe getting out of the player ship or something, like a “Samus is a chick!” moment. Or some other image if you have something in mind.
  Shop screen
   - Up to 240x320
   - A gui for the player to buy upgrades for their ship.
   - Buttons/text to buy each upgrade and to go to the next wave. With some mouseover highlight.
   - Maybe little “pips” that fill up shoing how many upgrades you have and the total possible. (like the shield counter on the HUD).
  Hud
   - Needs to show the players shield and current funds.
  Invader Sprites
   - Note that these don't have to be invader aliens, they could be space ships as well.
   - 24x24 (you could probably go larger/smaller but i’m running with a 7x4 grid of them on the screen.
   - 2 Frames of animation.
   - I need 7 of these. Hopefully looking increasingly more badass as you go along.
  Invader bombs
   - Probably just one, maybe tinted for each type of invader.
  Player Ship
   - 32 x 32 (not really a size locked in stone)
   - Probably a main frame and leaning left and right. With a little jet exhaust animation.
   - Note that the ship will only be shooting one shot at a time so it won’t realy need 80 cannons hanging off it.
  Player Shots
   - The player can upgrade the gun power to 5 different levels, so having a sprite for each would be cool.
   - You can only hit one invader at a time with a shot so they shouldn’t get too big, but they can increase in size a bit as the player levels up.
  Explosions
   - A little explosion to cover up when an invader is killed.
   - And a smoke puff as well.
   - I can scale, rotate and alpha fade in code.

Style
I don’t really have a set style I want met, so you may want to factor in an hour or so to look up a few game screens of a type you want to do for me to pick from in your quote. Below are some sprites I’d be cool with.
http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/26384.htm - Lots going on here, but I think the individual ships and background would work fine for my game.
http://www.spriteart.com/indigo/images/art/pixelart/subship.gif - If you wanted to do a more cutesy stile that would be fine too.

Hopefully I included enough info, but feel free to ask if you need more. I'm looking for quotes for the art and a portfolio/resume to go with it. You can respond in this thread, PM me or email at adam@hulkamaniac.com.

Thanks,
Adam C. Clifton

This looks very interesting, I would be glad to help out. I could do anything but the ships are my forte.

My pixeljoint gallery/portfolio is here:

I have done shmup ships in the past so it shouldn't be too hard for me.
If you happen to choose me for this job, PM me and we'll go from there.

Questions:
  • Time. What is an ideal amount of time to have these sprites completed?
  • Payment. How much would you like to pay? How will you pay me; Paypal I presume?

Thats some nice art there.
I'm not in a huge rush to have the art done, i guess a month would be fair?
I can pay with paypal or moneybookers and the like, or by bank deposit if you are australian based.

With regards to how much i'll pay, that's why i'm asking for quotes. I'm sure there is more info on this forum somewhere about making a good quote. From what i've seen the lowest offer was around 250 usd. Better artists can charge more is the way i assume it goes :P.

I will be judgeing on quality as well as price.
