House better come back, and House better come back soon. Things were just getting fun. Plus I was hoping the old fraud would be one of the 3 final ones.

That looks damn cool, P_O. You get bonus points for not using perspective. I have a thing for orthographic projection in games :>
The Source engine has a console command that allows you to switch to orthographic projection, which I think is pretty cool. Isometric Half-Life 2!

Thanks, if I had used the projection system some objects like the pillars would hide other objects that were shorter than their height.

Well, you are a monkey who has learned quickly how to communicate with humans by fingering through plastic buttons on electronic devices, called "computers". It wouldn't be out of the ordinary for you to gain deja vu over iso graphics....also, you bring impending doom to humans, or so your name dictates.

If that last line isn't true, than my world is shattered.

I bring doom lin the same sense as do comets (in superstition at least): I signal its coming, am a, to quote Calvin and Hobbes, "harbringer of doom," but I personally don't mean you guys too much harm.

Now for the doom portion of this post: imagine that sentence without capitalization or punctuation.

Also, were the last line false, I would've shattered your world and doomed you, (presumably) a human. Intentional paradox?

RPG is numberwang.

Dear close family,

dentsit=dentist

His username is reo which is the first half of the band REO Speedwagon. To tie in the second part of the band name "Speedwagon" I linked it with driving to the dentist in a Speedwagon.

Hope it helps.

p.s. I'm sending you this magic flute that will take you to another world.

Anybody know what you'd call a combined add-subtract blending mode (result = source_b + (source_a - 0.5) * 2)?

I don't see much of a subtract going on there, nor do I see a reason for there to be the -0.5, assuming you're dealing with RGB values. Also, depending on compiler settings, a shiftleft might be better than multiplying by two for speed.

EDIT: Typo.

That's not actual code just a minimal complete representation.
RGB is not necessarily 0-255 for each component. That is a implementationism. This is using the more abstract unit representation.

I just want to know the name for such as it bugs me not having a word to describe it.

I'm sure such a blender must be used as it solves the problem with the add blended HUD disappearing over the top of bright areas, without requiring a double  read of a source and the loss of accuracy shouldn't be a concern for most purposes.

Oh, so those are float values between 0 and 1? I would call it partial addition blending.

Also, you mention accuracy loss; I would do something differently to prevent it--maybe instead of subtracting 0.5 then multiplying by 2, you could divide by two and then add 0.5?

Except, your algorithm looks like it could produce outputs where result>1; take B=1 and A>0.5, for example. Maybe I'm not understanding it fully?

I don't have my copy of OpenGL redbook on me right now. Have you consulted the online Redbook? It should have a blending section with some common blending methods. Do you have a pic of the result of the blending operation?

MoD:
No matter what you do with it you're going to lose accuracy when using one value of a given finite accuracy in place of two (one for add pass and one for subtract pass) of the same finite accuracy.

If you're outputting to a non HDR surface you would clamp it at the end of the processing pipeline.

PO:
No haven't coded it yet. Just sorting out a list of random ideas for my dream graphics editor.
It will look much the same as an add of the lightening map followed by a subtract of the darkening map.
AFAIK it isn't a standard blender (which is why I don't know its name), though it should be trivial to write you own shader should you want it.

I still have yet to crack my Orangebook on writing shaders. Still poking around in the Redbook. So it is a sort of additive blending coupled with a subtractive blend? Sounds interesting. You might go to Shmup-Dev or even better DBF-GVy democode forum. I know Jim from the latter could bang you together a good piece of demo code in minutes. What language do you program in?
