Yeah once again... I didn't smoke for 6 weeks now(yeppee!)...
Now let me tell you, while it doesn't bother me for most of the day I really miss to smoke in those breaks I have when pixelling, painting or doing anything else "creative". Brr good that I'm so actively painting right now

Oh well anybody else smoking and trying to quit? (I guess not you... you... healthy people )

BTW it's hard not to eat too much now (and before that I never cared THAT much for food... just the essential stuff)

It is SOOOOOO difficult I know... especially when trying to take breaks between pixelling or after a good meal. Drink alot of water. Chew alot of gum. Try eating peanut butter right from the jar for those diificult times. Of course, none of these things have worked for me yet. Too much drama to quit right now... excuses

I  made my dad quit once when I was 10 by being really annoying (during the summer when my mom and sis was away and I had to work with him) and since we were together all the time, everytime he'd pull out a cigarette I'd start nagging him until he threw it out. And I refused to go out and buy them for him (he's was a lazy bum so that worked lol).  But then  when we were leaving the country he was really nervous all the time and w/o me around he started smoking again.  But he stopped when we got here because he didn't speak english and I wouldn't tell him how to ask for cigarettes at the store.  so in a less then a month my   dad quit because ..well he had no choice :)

My point is, don't start again no matter how much you want to. Just don't.  I know it's really hard (ugh my dad told me all about it) but find a way to motivate yourself.  Like, with all the money you used to spend on smokes you can buy yourself something ...well I don't know what you want to buy for yourself, but money is always a great motivation.  So figure out how much you used to spend per day on cigarettes and put that much in a jar or something.  And if you see that money everyday you'll want  to put more and more in there.  So, it can be done just don't quit quitting :D

I don't know what to do about the food cravings though... try exercise, I hear it's a good hobby.  Not so much to lose weight, but just to have something to do.  I know often when I'm bored I automatically go to the kitchen even if i'm not really hungry.  So when you have nothing to do and you don't want to stuff yourself (and lose appetite before dinner ) do some exercises

Good luck

I have been trying to quit for 3 years now, it's not easy...  Not even tumors slowed me down, cause I guess I am just retarded.  I am on a 2 pack a day habit.  THe only time I slow down is when I am pixeling hardcore, thus you should see the massive amount of WIP I have, the folder they are in is getting near 100mb.  I set Aug 15th as my next try to quit day...  One thing I found that does give me that extra edge is Wellbutrin XL.  It is actually a anti-depressant I just started taking, and let me tell you, the cigarettes (even my favorite Marlboro) taste like sh*t wrapped in paper.

Best of luck to you.

Exactly ryan. Hehe, my dad quit smoking somehow. I don't even know how (because my parents are divorsed) but I heard he used to smoke one of those really tiny skinny cigs (french cigarettes I think) when he was frustrated, instead of the normal once...

Well, if we could get a time machine and go into the past and stop ourselves from starting, that would be a good tip...

well the media has shoved "dont smoke" ads down this generations throat, so yeah, we obviously dont wanna start. But I know a lot of kids that (sadly) do it to be popular, or whatever. And their like, 14-16. It's pretty sad.

I always thought that if someone is as dumb as to smoke for those reasons, they deserve all the crap they'll get by doing it. Natural selection.

I started smoking when I was 12 to be popular. Then I got a brain. I quit cold turkey at 13. It was not as big a deal as everyone makes out to be. People are idiots.

leel: That money argument doesn't work for me. Actually smoking was much cheaper for me 'cause I didn't spent so much money for all kinds of food. I smoked tobacco (wrapping it myself) which is quite cheap (I spend 8 euros a week max). But hey my cooking becomes better and better

So-Lou: It's not so much the physical addictivness (damn is that the word or my invention?) but more the habit that is so difficult to get away from. I think the nicotine is quite soon out of your system when you quit but a year-long habit (11 years in my case - I started when I was 14...)? For example: painting doesn't feel the same without a smoke now and then and a good meal oh damn I better don't even start to think about a good beer

oh well...

Well I don't smoke but.. I think there was a time I was addicted to caffinated sodas. Like.. I would feel bad if I didn't drink one. Or sometimes when I was pissed off I'd think.. "God, I need a soda".

Now.. I just drink diet stuff. Which still has caffine, but I notice I don't NEED it anymore.

I tried smoking once but I nearly died coughing. Nowadays, I CANNOT STAND the smell of smoke. It chokes me.

*shrug* Was just trying to thow some ideas out there  It made sense to me, though buying cigarettes (or whatever you need for making them) instead of food doesn't. But again, I've never been addicted so I wouldn't really know where you're coming from.  Still, find a good motivation, one that works for you  and just keep going.

Same here. Which is why I never tried smoking, and never will... I also try to avoid smokers. Don't get me wrong here, I mean that as in: I try to avoid those people when they are smoking ;)

My dad smoked for 7 years, since he was 15.  One day, while dating my mom, she gave him an ultimatum, smokes or her.  He threw his last pack in the trash and hasn't had one since...

Personally, I think it all comes down to willpower.

I actually watched my best friend's dad die of lung cancer, and it wasn't fun.  I remember sleepovers, where I'd hear him spitting up blood upstairs...certianly turned me off the idea.  I was mortified when my best friend picked up the habit, a year after his dad's death...luckily my encouragement, coupled with having a kid of his own, helped get him back on track.

That's my opinion:

Smoke, coffee and chocolad /large quantity/ ... nice combination for use every day

Interesting ... quantity is less when I go to the mountain or outside the city  but I very rarely go to the mountain and outside the city

I never did understand smoking. It seems pretty pointless (Not to mention dumb) to me. I swore at a very young age (Not so long ago.) to never smoke or drink, and so far I can't see myself doing either in the future. If ever I have a craving for something it's for videogames or a good book.

I agree with nVision in that it's all about willpower.
If you're like "It's bad, but I like/need it," then you won't get anywhere, but if you're like "I'm going to freaking die if I don't stop," then that might help a bit.

i dont smoke (i hate it, its really a turn off if i see a girl grab one of them deathsticks) but i dont think that alcohol is very dangerous.. well.. if one can control himself not to go overboard

i dont do coffee either.. i like english tea (tea with a bit of milk) and if i really need some caffeine/ energy, like on a school sports tournament, ill grab a red bull or something alike

I remember trying a cigarette when I was probably 14. I inhaled once and it was the nastiest taste. It tasted just as I thought it would, dry, bitter and I could feel the hairs in my throat burn down to the root. Which was kind a cool part about the experience though, because I could breathe amazingly clear right after that happened. A few weeks later I ended up trying a second out of my once again nagging curiosity, and I came to the conclusion, again, that smoking sucks.

Also, Snader, caffeine doesn't give you energy. Red Bull, Rock Star, Monster, Starbuck's Doubleshot, whatever it is you're drinking, it actually dehydrates you more than it does hydrate and it doesn't give you energy, it gives you what we think of as energy. When a person thinks "energy" they probably think strong, fast, aware and so on. Food and sleep are the best sources for energy, but rarely have I felt any of those three as soon as I'm done eating or when I wake. It's actually weakening you to take a Red Bull before going out and being active, it's the same thing as drinking a soda before a game, except to a more extreme degree. It's also dangerous with alcohol, since alcohol dehydrates you to begin with, the last thing you should be doing is mixing a vodka and Red Bull. Not that you are doing so, I'm just expanding on the note about energy drinks being a facade.
