Hello all. This is my first time on the forum. I came across this site because I'm doing research for a web comic that I'm going to be starting soon. The plot of the web comic aside (it's still in development), I've decided that I want to draw the comic in pixel art style.

I've never drawn in this style before, but I've always been a fan. I was originally planning on doing everything in MS Paint, but after looking through the thread on software options it seems like I might have some better choices.

I don't want to copy previously existing pixels or grab characters from video games. Everything is going to be completely original, from the ground up. I plan on having detailed backgrounds and environments as well. If I'm going to eventually update the comic several times a week, I'll need to create a variety of reusable templates for settings and in-scene items in order to maintain the level of detail that I want.

The above pictures (which I did not create) roughly represent the level of detail I'd like with my characters. I'm not sure if I'll be creating all of the characters in the same style. Some may be more detailed than others.

All of that said, does anyone have any recommendations for a program (or programs) to use? If anyone on here has undertaken any similar endeavors I'd be happy to take advice and discuss.

Once the comic is underway I'll be sure to post updates and samples of character "sketches," etc.

Thanks!

Nothing wrong with MSpaint. Other than that, good luck.
