f**k, I love this so much. Both trees are great but I think the second one goes better with those branches.

Hi Opacus,
The rocks really tile nicely. Good Job! I liked the second tree more than the first tree as well. The whole piece gives it a surreal feel to it. Awesome! Maybe you can add a little contrast to the plants and mushrooms to differentiate each form. Looking forward to the edits! Best regards from M.E. |

Thanks Aleiav :).
M.E: Thanks, I don't exactly know how to aproach the contrast thing on the plants though...I gave it a go but I just ended up looking weird. Anyway: Updaet. Here is an edit of the stone tile with far more vegitation and a small waterfall. Man I love waterfalls. ![]() |

nice waterfall! simple and effective. I'd just add some vegetation *over* the left side on the top of waterfall, to give the effect that it flows through the vegetation.

Hi Opacus,
That grass overflow is cool! ** Edit was saved in BW **Made a little edit. Not sure if it is anywhere close to the thing you are looking for. While working on the mockup I found that you are using really a lot of colors. More than I had anticipated. Not a bad thing, just a comment I thought I would give. ** Edit was saved in BW :( ** Ow dear .. my GIMP has defaulted to saving in gray ![]() Well at least you can see the areas where I have made things darker. Hopefully you still find this response worthwhile. My appologies for the save .. I didn't made different saves.... Best regards from M.E. |

It's actually not a bad idea to put your image in all graytone, Opacus. You'd be able to see where the brightness levels are too similar.
I think m.e. is on the right track, but the plants could use some more contrast. |

I really like this piece. I see a little bit of everyone behind it.
darkfalsx in the grassy areas and tree leaves, fool in the shrubbery you have there as well as the color choices, a bit of vierbit in the rock formations - and a slight flavor of henk it turned out very nice :) Edited by Indigo - 14 May 2008 at 12:21pm |

Indigo: Hehe, you just become psychiatrist man. You neary analyzed it perfectly.
Vierbit is who inspired me to do this in the first place. Darkfalz is indeed what I took a good look at, especially for ideas on the grassy areas. Well, and Henk is one of my biggest inspirations. He's who inspired me to make the 'tree' pixel art, which is still my personal favourite. Fool is also a great inspiration of mine. Though I didn't look at his stuff for this. But I should, actually :). Doppleganger: Yes, I sometimes do it. But I should more. Thanks for the edit on Pixelation I'll make an edit on the contrast issue soon. M.E: Don't worry about it. In fact, maybe it's better this way. Black and white makes sure you don't get distracted by the colours. And in that way I can fuly concentrate on the contrast and the volumes. And you're right about the colours. I don't have any limitations though. All the tiles etc are made seperatly, and with a different pallete. So all together they might have a high amount of colours, 50 or so. But if you divide it by 3 it aint so bad :). I might lower the count though. I by the way just ordered Richard William's The Animator's Survival Kit. Can't wait for it to come in. Then you can expect some animations for the game aswell. And I might just upload some music I made for it. Here's an update: ![]() I will update the shurbbery later with more contrast. Thanks for the crits and the luv guys. ![]() Does the image work for any of you? For some reason it doesn't seem to show for me. If you can't see it just use the direct link here: http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/229/treeandsh*t3ms5.gif Edit: Lol, it's named trees and sh*t. So it's censored. Replace the * with an i. Edit 2: Ah, of course, that's why it doesn't work! Will change the name Edit 3: Fixed. Edited by Opacus - 19 May 2008 at 2:32pm |

Love where you are going with this piece I especially enjoy how the roots break through the bottom of the tile set. Only thing that looks odd to me right now is the far left tubular mushroom, it seems to detract from the piece because my eye is led to it pretty quick. Perhaps it is the saturation because the mushroom in the front seems to fit nicely.

Thanks dude. Here's an update.
I added 2 more of the tube things, in the hope that it being more common now, it will be less distracting? ![]() |

Having the tube clustered like that feels natural and it breaks up the vertical keep the updates coming.
