I came across this page and 2 items were interesting and may prove helpful.
One is about transparent BGs in Paint and the other about saving as gif. I am a Mac user so have no way to determine its validity. Will someone investigate and then share the knowledge? http://www.nemahaweb.com/nemahaweb/tips.htm |

Haven't tried that download yet, since it says it's for 98/ME and I've got XP.
But I'd like to point out that paint can show and save GIFs. It just distorts the quality and/or reduces colors. |

But it says that you copy the 98 version INTO XP so that you end up with 2 versions of Paint : /

but its more a way to bypass the need to put a transparency with an external software. It works, but I don't believe its really worth anything. specially considering that you can only have this Win98SE version of paint from a windows CD. so I would say its not worth the effort.
