Wow! Its beautiful! Even the light bulbs are!
I have just one thing: It looks like the beginning of the tail is facing to us, while it should face right back. Also, with his tail in this position the 'dog' would be in motion, or just was in motion. the position of is body gives the feeling he is standing here for a couple of seconds, planning to run away (because of his left fore feet) I really like the palette you used! The dog doesn't have to be in motion to have it tail in that position, but your right about the base of the tail. I've never seen a dog with a feline-type tail like this, but cats twirl there tails like this all the time while standing still.
all I would say is the 'elbows" of the jackal/dog are a bit low. they don't -look- bad, but there anatomically incorrect. (different breeds can have veruy different leg builds, though)
