Hi! Everyone,

I'm a mobile game developer. I'm a painter as well. But I work on several games as a pixel artist. I actually do coding, but if artist needs help (because of short time) I help him/her.

But now I'm thinking of taking pixel art for earning living. My question is, how much you earn per month. I know its a stupid question and please pm me with your answer. Thanks in advance.

I haven't done it full time with a company, I've only done freelance.

But...

I get about 20 dollars for an average sized peice, maybe 64x64. I can do one of those in about an hour, so that makes 10 dollars an hour. Not very good pay.

Good thing I'm only 14. I'd be absolutely screwed in the real world.

If you really want to be a Pixel Artist, I'd suggest doing it only part time. Have you gone to college? It would be great to have a degree in Graphics Design, then maybe you can get into big buisness. You have to build your way up, so don't quit your day-job so to speak.

Hope this helps.

Yes, 10 dollars an hour is horrible pay. Especially considering the cost of pixel art supplies. Paying those bills and taxes at 14 is pretty hard, not to mention the cost of your parents' utility bills. I would love to make 10 dollars per hour at my real job son.

Lol P_O i think the idea BlackDragon was getting at is that it may be hard to make a living from it, which is what pixy seeks.

Pixy, check out this and this.

Hi! All,

I want to know a price so that it won't be low for me and won't be high for employer. It will help me to get the job.

Tell me something for hourly and per frame or per tile. :)

I think your pay should depend on your skill level. How good are your results, and how long does it take you to get those results? I wouldn't want to pay a pixel artist an hourly rate if it's going to take them months to get a small tileset finished, and wouldn't want to pay them at all if they submit crap.

I think commision is the best way to go with pixelling, unless you're working from the employer's office. If someone offers you an hourly rate to pixel and it's $10 an hour or more, take it! Sitting on your butt moving a mouse around is a lot easier than most $10 per hour jobs (think of those poor fast food cooks and toilet cleaners).

Jesus f*cking christ kids! 10 dollars an hour is not crappy at all. Do the math: ten dollars * eight hours per day * five days a week * four weeks a month = 1600 dollars per month.

Now lets assume you pay 1000 dollars per month for food, rent(including water and electricity) and maybe 400 for various insurances that you'll need...theres 200 bucks per month that you can save or spend on fun stuff.

Getting that amount of money for something you love doing (pixel pushing) must be awesome.

I do work 40 hour weeks and I get around 3 Euros per hour (4.42 dollars), doing something I can't say I love doing (programming business software).
Next year though, I'll probably get a raise and will then earn two or three times as much, which will be nice, still not enough to get rich but it will make a much nicer living. :)

$10 is great.  grow up.  most of you have NO bills, rent, etc.  try making 6.65 and hour WITH bills.  but i do it.

and if you are starting up and expect more than 10 an hour, you are a moron and shouldnt expect to make it much further than you are now.

(this was in response to dennis, i am on my way to work and refuse to read the rest of the thread right now)

Both true but
Some can't do it full time, unless they are working for a company or take on ridiculous amounts of freelance jobs. I know I can't; I don't have a degree yet and I just started high school. No time.

10 is nothing to turn your nose up at.
