I'm working on this piece along with three others for this week's challenge because frankly, when I saw that there was no color limit, I became mentally insane. Anyway, this piece inspired from The Office was denied. Any tips would be helpful. I'm currently working on lighting and color changes.

i assume it's a golfcart? are you using any reference images- if so it might be helpful to post them, if not then it would certainly be helpful to get some.

I'd watch the use of interior black outlines (in fact, edges that are pop out toward the viewer are usually indicated by a line lighter than the adjacent planes). On the subject of planes- pick a lightsource and shade the planes accordingly. contrast between planes that touch will add some three-dimensionality to the piece.
in addition to shading in this manner, observe the wheels. i'm not sure why they lack outlines, or have broken light edges. you might want to construct a transparent model before jumping into coloring and the like, as drawing the axels would help a lot in ensuring you place the wheel in the right place (right now they do not align). The wheels on the side facing the viewer are also too close together. The cart itself (assuming this IS a golfcart) is all out of whack- the top shouldn't overhang that much, there seems to be no front to the vehicle (where is the engine housed?), etc. I'd really recommend googling references, seeing how your piece differs from the real thing- and adjusting accordingly.

also- drop those other iso entries! you've only got a day, so you need to pick one and focus on it (ideally, you shouldn't have started these tangent pieces in the first place- it's detrimental to your concentration and how much you're able to invest in a single work. aim for quality, not quantity).

Thanks for all the advice. I got the golf cart, and yes it is indeed a golf cart, from this clip from The Office. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk5z5rCRrNE As for the other three pieces, they were all started before this one, as this one was just started today, the others have been worked on all week. My first submitted one was when I didn't know exactly what iso meant, but I've made it over and will submit it later with the other two and the redo of this one.

In iso, especially, you just can't run and draw. You must play within the iso grid.
Work from the ground up. Here I drew a tire then copy/pasted using the 2:1 and drew my basic shapes from the wheels up. Then started coloring and detailing.
I've left it as simple as I could.
I commented on your gallery submission (some other Mod sent it back, like I suspected), that the wheels were 1px wide. That's because I use a dark theme and the wheels didn't show up. That's why my edit is on a grey BG. Keep things like that in mind in future pieces.

This is your ref, it shows nothing o.O

I was trying to show you how simple it is. Iso is very, very easy.
Patience and keeping to the grid. I believe in you :)

Remember you saying "but, the seat is white"?
Looks white but I used no color white.

Here are my other three pieces. I was going to submit them all tonight but am going to put them here instead to get your opinion on them. I already know that they aren't transparent and have wheels that aren't completely attached, but I will fix that tomorrow morning. I also know that the lighting is way off, but I did use different shades on the walls on the left sides. I will also fix the lighting tomorrow.

I can't c+c these right now but will tomorrow.
Almost nothing is on the iso grid. I do like the middle one tho.

g'nite :)

See balamoot's gallery sometime, he's great with iso vehicles.

5 extend the front, its kinda 'smooshed'
6 same as front goes for back too...
7 maybe add some flaws to the paint, key marks or whatnot? nothings perfect. are there rivets or anything holding the sides of the truck together? (its shaped like a armored truck)
8 round the front a bit? (not very aerodynamic)
9 add some people (loading the truck maybe?)

edit:
10 add details to the hubcaps

you need to focus on a single entry, not jump around and produce 3 sub-par vehicles. i really find it difficult to want to help someone who doesn't have the drive to stick to anything or help themselves.

your concern at this point should not be rushing something into the challenge, but making a pixel work that stretches your own abilities and allows you to take pride in the time and work invested into the piece.

I've added the comments to the others thread.

Soooooo…go draw this truck and the other truck  using these guidelines… Leave the ice cream one for when these 2 are complete.

I'm gonna say this because I don't want you to think anyone is mad at you because you opened a 2nd thread:
We all learn from threads, by keeping them as one then others can see progress and pick up tricks here and there. An edit may seem like its taking time for just you alone and your piece but edits are essentially learning tools for all.

Honestly its not an insane edit, just an informative one. Please be patient and concentrate and go make your own insanity

Man, I hate to be all over you but listen. While you have pieces as WIP threads submitting them to the gallery makes the following 2 things happen:

1) Nobody wants to help you because you are showing you don't give a sh*t about c+c and any help whatsoever. This help means for the current AND any future pieces. For example, I'll be more hesitant to even try to help thinking you'll submit to the gallery before I even make a comment much less an edit (which takes time away from my own pixels.)

2) Your pieces will sit > stew > bore > get rejected > etc.

As I have said before. I admire your tenacity and you obviously want to pixel and certainly keep churning them out. Please try to think of quality over quantity. Take one current piece and work on it till its the best it can be. Perhaps challenges are not for you, just yet. Patience on your part will pay off because others will show patience with you.

*I kinda lost mine.

Here's this week's challenge entry, I'm going to fix the wheels and resubmit a final time. Speaking to everyone who denied this piece entering the gallery the first time, is there anything else to fix aswell? Thanks.

EDIT: It's animated, but doesn't show up here FYI.

A bit more shading would help, and the wheels are not aligned with the car, you should change that.

And gamer, save his excellent edit, and zoom in a see how he shades everything, from the headlights to the edges of the roof, it's amazing.

Study it! And you will see results.

And I'm guessing you using paint, use some low contrast colors, and mixing them with some medium contrast bright colors, as highlights.

where is the engine? the wheel wells? how does that door operate? why are the edges so sharp? what elements could you add to break up the boring brick-shape of the van?
ideas:
a sunroof, a back bumper, ridges along the top of the vehicle, differentiation between the top of the van and the sides it sits atop.

Vehicles have anatomy, just as a person does. They are made of many parts, yours seems to be a brick-shaped body with headlights and a fender slapped on. You need to find and utilize reference images of vans, and study the edit jalonso made earlier in this thread.

I admire your trying to place your object in an environment this time, but I think you should just focus more on the truck right now. You're having the same issues with the wheels as before.

But if you want to keep that setting. . . do something about those flowers.

I may make an edit of your truck. But in the meantime you should reread everyone's advice. And then read it again, maybe.

the wheels are off with the outlining of the car.

And this is quite a lot of improvement :) Keep it up,

add a show and also, don't stick to the same color EXACTLY, thats the biggest problem I have when it comes to ISO pixels, switch the colours a bit but make sure its still around a purple.

Again, improvement :)

Here's a close-to-final copy. I finally fixed that god-awful roof, those non-iso wheels, and gave the driveway tiles an awesome 3d effect. FYI, last time I had changed the flowers, roof, moonroof, rearview window, paintjob, lights and windows. Give any last minute advice, I should be submitting tonight, as long as I have a good few people saying it's gallery-worthy.

EDIT: lol, forgot to put in the actual updated scene.

Your colors are way too saturated. In fact their basically at full saturation.
Highlight protruding corners with a lighter shade.
I pulled the front forward to make room for an engine. Right now it's a van with a front like a garbage truck or bus.
The outlines on the lights on top aren't dark enough- they're lighter than the surrounding purple.
The bumper is at the wrong angle.
You still need wheel wells.
Use hue shifting. And to reiterate: way less saturation.

Unfortunately I have learned nothing yet about saturation, so that doesn't really make any sense to me. I'll fix the rest and start reading up on saturation.

It's basically differnt tones of colours.
I have no if I'm write but fully saturated colours are the colors that are the brightest like the purple you were using, it's the equivalent of a lime green for the purple family :P

If you saturate these colors lower you get a more easier color on the eyes, and it helps when making a iso pixel a lot more interesting.

That's looking a lot better! I like the shape of the top. I think it would be best, since the deadline is coming up, to take out the background, crop it, make it transparent. I think that would take care of your color dilemma.

A few more pointers: Make the front license plate one color or two closer colors, give the door a handle.

Been putting in a lot of hours today on this; changed the animation, eccentuated the door handle, and took 8 colors out. I think it's finally done. I'll submit now in fear of not being approved with less than 6 hours left. If I get approved early and I'm still up, I'll take any more suggestions and put them into my approved piece. I'm more than happy with the result, especially compared to my first "final draft".

Well I've spent the last 5 days pouring my heart and soul into this even though right now it's less than excellent. I'd appreciate some C/C. Right now I'm working on adding the one critical missing piece, the headlights, but am having trouble positioning them correctly. And as stated in the other thread, I did the sidewalk and flowers again from scratch to comply with the challenge rules.

I was told that this doesn't resemble the original image enough, but I know I followed the rules on that one. The banana head comes from that diamond there, it looks like it had sunglasses on, those lines near the bottom of it resembled a skateboard, that big circle reminded me of a cloud, and those dots reminded me of stars. Ignoring that, what other things can I add or change in the next few hours before my final submission? Thanks.
