Hi!
This is my third WIP (I have to finish the other ones :P) ![]() I tried to make a more interesting palette, by changing the hue a little (yellow-green-blue). I like the brown color on the leaves, but not too much on the trunk. It needs: - more contrast - More work on the background. - Improve the palette and add better brows/reds - Reconsider the light source Maybe I'll add a bonfire next to the tree. I think it will be interesting to add more reds, violets and yellows :) TIME: 3 h (i want to work faster and better!)

I love it. The big leaves are great. I'm going to steal this idea some day.
I think you addressed all the important issues yourself. If I were to nitpick, I would ask for a rougher texture on the tree trunk. Right now, it's as smooth as Dave Chapelle's botox balls. |

Me thinks the green section of your palette needs to hit the blue/purple range with possibly one shade a true grey to help visually desaturate things overall
Your palette work is getting better so kudos. Couldn't find the right example in the gallery but this example came close to (by born). Notice the darkest shade the blue/purple and more importantly the next shade down which is a color that works for for the greens and the browns. Those are the two general colors missing in your palette. (I've messed up the link and it opens a new page ![]() ![]() I do see some things that seem wrong but may not be. If there is a full moon out there would be enough light to hit the tree and certainly affect the ground shadow. If there is some secondary lighting offscreen that will cast the golden shades into the tree then some of it would hit the ground too, no? One last thing is all the pixelling in the ground seem 'thrown' around. Place them with ![]() Edited by jalonso - 27 April 2011 at 7:04pm |

Well, I decided to use a totally new palette (not mine, I hope it's ok). I think it turned out very well!
![]() ![]() I have to finish the background, bonfire and trunk.
There are too some pixels on the leaves that I don't like.

It looks like there are ripples in the grass, with the bonfire as its center. I know that the light from the bonfire will cast light on the surrounding grass, but I don't think it should look like a ripple effect. |

That's the most important thing! Great improvement from your first picture :) The one thing that bugs me at the moment is how flat the moon is compared to all the rest.

Looks much better! Very nice detail with the rocks there. I also kind of agree in regards to the moon. It wouldn't look so flat if it was completely white, but since it's bright green it comes off as flat.

Originally posted by Sergiotron Well, I decided to use a totally new palette (not mine, I hope it's ok). Borrowing a palette is an acceptable thing if you give credit like you have done and especially so if you ask the creator by PM. When you submit to the gallery don't forget to credit Kaiseto there too. Looks great now, much improved. You are learning fast. Big kudos on the stars. My only nitpick is a composition one. Seems the moon may either be too big or too bright. Of course the overall tree shape is a circle too so maybe this is affecting the piece. Did you try a half or quarter moon? Have you tried putting some clouds obscuring the moon? The tone of the picture is kinda shady so it would match well a mist on the moon.

Thanks for your commets guys!
I'll work on the moon (that sounds great, isn't it?
![]() Right now I have a question about photoshop. I don't know why the exported PNG looks very different from the original.
Original (Left) - Exported PNG (Right)
![]() ![]() I had to use the "print screen" key, then paste it on MS paint, then save it and crop it with Picture Manager.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

It seems you 'save' instead of 'save for web'. This is why in your file output the file remains as an RGB image instead of indexed colors.
When you save in PS as a png the default is a png24 file. Pixelart likes png8 better. gif - the best option, old school, never fails. png8 - also good, especially if transparency is used but will shift colors a little bit. (this happens when your levels in the colors are inconsistent as it tries to balance them out). png24 - allows millions of colors and shifts colors. Never good. Using the 'save for web' option also lets you verify color counts and res output. ![]() Edited by jalonso - 03 May 2011 at 6:21am |

Looking good. Vastly improved over the original, especially in the form of the tree.
How about putting some clouds in front of the moon? I think it helps ease the harsh transition between black night and bright moon: ![]() |
