Yeah, having problems with the gold mostly. I'm avoiding dithering, and haven't anti-aliased it yet. I'm not too happy with the shines on the blade either.

Help would be quite appreciated.

Tried, and failed. I think this is a lost cause. Maybe I just don't get it, to me, it wasn't explained all that well.

The other thing you could try is get a kitchen knife and light is as you would like the lithsourse to be and go to twon. The handle you'll need to play with.

recycle!  you only really need at most 5 colors to shade in a round object...  just dither the hell out of it.  for example:

i only used 5 colors for the eyes and teeth.   dither is your friend, if you dither enough, you can make 2 colors into 1

I was trying to avoid dithering on this one, guess that was a bad idea. I might go back and redo it, though.

And thank you for providing such great image hosting.

in that case, you can still do it, but you can do it with much less colors, especially on the gold parts.make the shades wider.  try removing all the gold and use every 3rd shade of gold

I have taken the liberty to edit your dagger to illustrate two points that may be of help. (really wanted to recolor it too  )

The first is your palette. The colors for the gold are green based yellows and not quite right for gold. I also think you have way too many colors in your palette. For metals I find minimal color use with greater contrast get the best results.

The second is your areas to make metallic are rather big as you have them. I find that breaking the planes into as many bevels, carvings and decorations as possible, simplify the matter since the "metal" is added in tiny manageable areas.

My example was done rather quickly and the blade itself should use much more contrast. I left less of it so that you can see breaking of the planes better.

Thanks, jalanso. I'm gonna practice making some gold and other metallic objects, and I'll keep in mind what you said. Really, thanks. I was frustrated at coloring so much I didn't think of adding decorations.

Go for it Snader.
