Yes I know everyone is fed up to the back teeth with the inane comments and lack of constructive criticism at dA but there are a lot of young, talented and potentially excellent pixel artists who if encouraged may well fill your forums with new and interesting artworks.

If there is no education there, the pixel art submission section will remain looking like the trash can in the bedroom of a prepubescent.

So are you going to continue to ignore me or will someone volunteer to take the first swing at me?

There is an immense  lack of knowledge at dA amongst the young artists so there is a mountain of crud being called pixel art.

However since posting I realize as best as I can understand it, there is a big political thing going on about  dA  and pixel artists going back to when Jark was fired.

The major pixel artists who were there then sided with Jark, spat the dummy and buggered off, hissing curses at the place.

So now the end result is pixel art is becoming the forgotten lost art except for small enclaves like this one and the one in the next room and the fragmented projects scattered around the place.

So it is now left to rank amateurs  and young kids to try to  fan the flame at dA and create a growing community, who will doubtless find Pixeljoint....

Bloody tragic  but when politics is more important than art...?

i dont know jack sh*t about the past of deviantart. i've been there for 2 years or something. been pixeling for five i think.. i got into pixelart BECAUSE of these small ''enclaves''. pixelart wont die, it will just be underground, hidden except from those worthy enough to find it.

Pixel art is featured all the time there. well, some of the time. there's someone in charge of DDs for pixel art, as well as another for digital art in general. I have seen dozens of pixel art get featured at DA.

yes, pixel art is pretty underground. it's not something you're just going to try one day, unlike the dominating crafts at DA, which are immensely popular because it's widely seen and practiced there.

so what is your point? you want us to attempt to save the pixel art section? attract more interest?

Well actually I tried lots and lots of things, and im doing pixels now longer than all those things.. so thats the best for me.. for what I tried at least... I want to learn more kinds of digital art, program more stuff, compose some numbers, help alot of people on computer forums, and get very rich :p

well maybe im not a real artist than.. im just some guy who can do pixels :) and about that other people will hate me , ah well I dont know what to say about that... anyway im not an artist like people are who are putting their feelings in it or something... Im just some1 who wants to show that I actually CAN do something... and that I CAN bring pixels, projects etc. to life... and that alot of people compliment me, when they see that its worth a compliment... It may sound very weird, but im some1 very complicated, and I have those needs ..... well that wasnt worth a wink.. whatever.

Oh yeah, I sift through all the sh!t in the pixel art rubbish bin.  It's bloody hard work.  There is a Catch 22 situation there at the moment. Very few good pixel artists contribute, so garbage takes hold and because of all the  garbage, artists won't contribute.

The solution is about education and critical mass, not abandonment.

As far as moderation is concerned....it is probably up to the artists to haunt the gallery and report non pixel art or ripped art. Only the artists would really know the difference sometimes. It would be a hard job, that is probably why so few are doing it....but there are a few dedicated souls putting in the hard yards.

wow, yeah, good luck with that...  we have tried to get it cleaned up many many times...  and you know what happens?  lots of wasted work and time, aggravation, and lots of broken promises.  you are barking up a try that is actually a stump.  they dont care about pixel art at da.

You can better notice the artist than the mods... if I find pixel art thats no pixel, or thats posted in ISO while its NOT, I allways comment on them.... Why should the mods do all that stuff?? Yes I know they are supposed todo so.. but since they arnt, we could atleast try to do such thing ourselves.... Im continuing with posting my art at deviantart

Lollige, there are hundreds of them, I have done that a couple of times but usualy the worst pixels/NPA edits, rips are posted by people that could care less about such things, and get angry if you tell them something (spoiled brats).

Don't get me wrong, I won't leave deviantart or anything, but the ones that should do the job are the mods, not us.

Not that I am a mod at dA nor ever want to be but I have moderated elsewhere.....moderation is hard work and ................VOLUNTARY!!!!

Mods give up their time to make your lives better. If everyone did their bit then it could be cleaned up quickly.

I don't have any art posted up at dA. How can they see my work there and say it's good when there's nothing to see?

DeviantART has definitely become the MySpace of the art world. The pixel art section has only ONE mod, Halfliquid (as far as I know anyways this hasn't changed). I don't think even he's up to the challenge of going through each and every piece of crap that gets posted. It's a crappy job done by someone who barely cares about the art itself in my opinion. He's a good guy, don't get me wrong, but it should be done by more experienced and passionate pixel artists.

I left dA partially because of the politics, the waste of space filled with lackluster scribbles, the large amount of youth with brains the sizes of a peanut, and the slow and sloppy navigation.

There's alot of great artists that post there but I just don't have the time or patience to sift through the cesspool of designs that get submitted.

Boy, I want to try out deviantArt! Sounds like a fun ride.

I don't think dA deserves to be dissed outside of its PA problems. I've met LOTS of great talented artists, good people, and even made friends there. Same goes for myspace.
