you really need to get along with the basics of desing and or drawing. you'll better take some paper and pencil and practice there first, get some EXP and then move into pixel art, as this lack of defined shapes and shadowing is a constant in both works.

Alright, i guess this is what i should do. I'll draw a helmet similar and try making it better. I guess i could do this for a while and come back to that piece. Thatnks for the advice.

black cloth mask wasn't working, once i changed that neither did the back go with it so changed orange

No, it wouldn't be accepted. And it hasn't been. (Why did you say you wouldn't submit it yet?)
Your signature says you now have the patience (assuming that's what you meant by 'patients') for pixel art. I gotta say, it's not really showing so far. And now for some constructive criticism, so I won't look like a complete asshole... You should probably either increase contrast or cut down on the colour count. There's a couple of colours that you can barely tell apart from the others. One of the greens at the dithering on the visor is one you can definitely get rid of. Dithering is usually meant for making two existing colours look like one new colour... what you have there now kind of defeats the point. And this is a helmet, right? The kind that goes on your head? It doesn't really look like you can wear it. It might be a good idea to draw a head and a small part of a body as a reference and build the helmet around that. |

thanks man, i do have the patience. Yesterday no one would help me or comment after i had what i have now. Thanks for the C&C, i think i will make a body sorta stick out with a blue outline and not colored in...sorta of like you would just see as a reference and like on a high-tech computor.
The green visor really sucks and i know that, i will try to fix what you said but it would be apreciated for more crit on it...and anything else

i made it darker, changed the visor. Is the shading in middle-left good? It looks sorta cool to me, but i don't know if its nice. I know how to AA, i just don't know if i need to use light shades of gray or shades of color being used in pixel.

1- My pony pixiedust says your original has a huge assed amount of colors which is a total waste.
2- Pixiedust and I came up with a far more limited color palette that retains your colors just as well using just 13 colors. The very darkest green may be used in the red areas too. 3- This shows your skull's general lighting and where things should go as you color. 4- The whole helmet is a rather big area. I suggest to you that you break things up into small areas. The size of these areas is determined by the size you feel confident pixelling. The less sure you are of coloring the smaller the areas should be. If you do this with this and any future pixel then the goal is to always try for slightly bigger areas until you are comfortable not breaking anything up. Trust me here its the best way to gain confidence and learn to detail small things which is always useful later on. Color these areas as single items using #3 for general color ranges. Also shown below in #5 5- You can also take these smaller areas and further divide them into yet smaller areas to pixel. Here you may add all sorts of things to your skull. Rivets, nails, wires, scratches. Anything you wish. These tiny add-ons are also perfect to hide little jagged parts of the lineart. They also add character and texture. Notice I took the mouth and divided that into two areas plus the hinges that connect the two. These are very small areas that I know you can handle with no problems. I think #3 is all I really wanted to mention your skull required but truly think that you should give the breaking things up into small areas a try. It has helped many in the past. Its also less overwhelming and with each little section you feel like an accomplishment was made and you self-encourage(?) and motivate into at first completing, then into try to get bigger and bigger section getting the same level of accomplishment. omfg, #3 is....so good. #5 is awesome,i think i could make similar parts and shade the entire thing link you started. I really like #3..the style, but that would be considered a wip for you? I don't know if i could do anything similar to start, but i can sure try.

The palette I made for your use so yes.
Try to remake it all on your own as you see fit. Just concentrate on contrast and definition which is the difference between my #3 and your pixel. Note that I didn't do the greatest job so that you had room to make your own without much copying. go! |

how do you like it so far? The visor is hard, you'res is great...but i can't seem to make one similar. They all look odd when i try.
-this han't been AAed yet so it looks sorta jaggedy. Thanks a bunch for putting that time into helping me
C&C, ill give a few more shots at visor again.
EDIT: I tried visors again and this time i think they look nice, i didn't do two light strands like jalonso

![]() You need to make your revision more your own. Yours is very similar to mine. Dither the helmet or something. When making the visor try to make it part of the helmet rather than ON the helmet as you have it. Maybe connected to the circle or something. See the samples here for ways to do so. |

OK, it looks good to me. I also added sorta like a nostrole hole, or it could be a scratch...either one.
Opps, forgot to dither everything...post that as soon as i finish
EDIT: OK, i don't know what parts to dither...do you guys think only the light shaded parts?
EDIT #2: dithering the big lighting spot was easy, how to i dither the small parts?

Well its not that you HAVE TO dither. The small area you did looks good. Smaller areas don't always have the room to dither and this is fine too. Just keep at it and keep posting updates as you go along.
Remember your concern when you first postied this: "don't know if you think so, but shouldn't this be accepted? It's best pice i've done and i think it's worthy" Isn't it better now? All pieces can always be better :p |

Why the green AA?
Where's the dithering and cleaning up of the lines? Where's the tiny highlights and detailing? You can still do so much more. I don't want to edit anymore on this because I don't want to take over it. You must find these things yourself. |

So those are not helmets but they show how you can highlight even further than you already have. This is what I meant by breaking up the areas into smaller areas and then detailing and defining these smaller areas. Zoom in and study, patience pays. Please be patient. Well, you could by:

I think you should stay away from the dither here - maybe just a bit to smooth out the highlights, but for a helmet, I think it's better off with really clean, sleek lines. Dithering softens and can blur it too much and give it a rougher texture.
Also on the green part, the highlight looks sort of odd - you see how on the google refs Jal posted the highlight tends to be straighter and all the way across? The way you have it now makes it seem like that part is too curved and bumpy. Try to make it go from top to bottom and it'll have a nicer, sleeker look |

ok, tried to sorta blend both things for visors. Just lines didn't fit with rest of helmet. Oh man...over-dithered, i guess your right. I'll try to see what i can do
Ok, for tonight i'm done with pixel art. I'm gona play some Halo 3 cuz i think i've been at this for almost 2 hrs. Tomarrow i don't know if i can get on cuz i'm going to my grammy's in the morning. ![]() I did a few good things here, cut down a small bit on dithering (might and probably need to go back to that), Make a simple but nice vent, edited visors to make look sleeker (isn't much straight, probably need to go back to that also), made a few sections as you can see, AAed nicer and bolded and did some linework.

I agree you should refine the dithering a little bit. The vent and the added bumps and ridges are fantastic. Do you find the mouthpiece odd looking? I hadn't noticed it before but is seem oddly shaped :/ btw, that imageshack you are using is behaving some. I use www.tinypic.com and its really good. |

I have tried removing and editing your images and it doesn't work.
Try deleting your images in imageshack, especially the older versions. |

Well unless anyone else has a comment or crit for you I say your pixel is gallery ready now. Maybe just remove or color the BG in a more interesting colors. Evevn black is ok.
You did an awesome job and I look forward to adding your helmet to the gallery. On your next piece if you also make a WIP thread I think the goal should be less edits and more visualizing what others say. Again, you did an awesome job. |

Thanks man, for my first real pixel i think its real nice. My brother (he's 11) sometimes watches me and says i stink...when he saw the helmet he couldn't believe i had done it lol.
