Alright, I'm trying to get better, so I decided to draw a robot, based off a previous try. I don't really want any CC on the first, older one, but I'd love anything you could say about the second. Help is greatly appreciated.
Old:
New:
I used a slightly larger canvas for the second. I think it looks better, personally, but again, any comments are great. |

Its more dynamic and has more style to it, kudos on that.
I see some mini steps to AA which is the better thing I notice. It would be great if you experimented with other details such as lineart coloring or even more metallic effects. Perhaps color usage refinements and experimentation too. I realize this is quite small and there isn't much room to explore. Some improvement is shown but you can go further than that. |

yup, what you did is very good. I think you can exaggerate that contrast way more.
You have 4 greens and 4 reds (I thinks) 3 of each is probably better. Here I would also try more difference in the grays to add contrast and definition too. |

I think it would really help if you softened some of those strong black outlines on everything.
Also, your second ) color is sooooo similar to your black that it's almost pointless.Edited by Hatch - 08 January 2008 at 8:32pm |

Alright, another edit. I was trying to think of what I could do to contrast it better. I changed the metal colour completely, and changed out one red and one green. It makes it shiny. I don't know if this'll make it better or worse, honestly.
:EDIT: Oh, just saw the post above me. I'm terrible at making non-black internal colours work. I just can't get it to look right. Any help would be awesome. :edit2: erk, just noticed something, and this is an update. Fixed the AA, which was too dark.

I really have no idea what to do for lineart. I'm lost with that.

I can make an edit if you'd like.
I however just know you can do it yourself without one. Zoom into this sprite by adarias for example notice the lineart is colored differently depending on where light hits the lineart or even the color within the lineart itself. You are using just black (teeny weeny bit of gray) Yesterday I was talking about reducing extra colors in the greens and reds, well you may add a few colors back in now but probably don't have to. Use what you have and add only when needed. *suggestions not orders, as usual. EDIT: adarias pixel not shown for comparison only for technique. He sucks at pixelart ;) Edited by jalonso - 09 January 2008 at 11:34am |

Alright, I tried, and I have no idea weather I failed horribly, or if I did alright.

You did great! I knew you could do it.
It's really awesome that you taught yourself. I hope you can see the better quality this has brought to your robot. I know its not really, really obvious in this particular example. This exercise is more for future pixels and to get better and better with each project. Not too mention bigger sprites too. Remove BG submit to gallery and on to the next ![]() |
