I figured I start a thread for this as I am very short of time this week I just found out. Anyway, I guess I'm just looking for more sets of eyes to see possible improvement.
Plans: Colors will be darkened. Possible space clouds to add some richness and feel....like death has come from them or something. And possible another light source (a red from the clouds?).

Wow the piece so far looks great :) im sure you are adding contrast so i dont see any prob or can give any tips so far

Thanks for the reply RollerKingdom. I readjusted the brightness and added some more contrast. A bit more to do...mainly on the sky. Some highlights too.

I think the pose of the skeleton could be improved. Right now it looks like the skeleton is daintily holding the globe with its thumb and index finger. Unless of course the idea is death toying with the world, hehehe.
Yeah an additional light source could provide him with just the right mood; lit slightly from the bottom for that malevolent feel. Loving the progress on your piece. =) |

Cool concept!
Problems I see: perspective, anatomy, light. Persp: its extreme on the hands (very wide angle and close up) but average on the skull. The skull could gain by being tilted either up or down, anyway, with exxagerated persp (prominent top or jaw, according to). Anatomy: thumb looks very wrong! I can't tell you how to fix it, check some refs first. The thumb is very different from other fingers: it has one less phalanx bone for one thing. The jaw looks a bit weird too. Light: your 2 light sources are too similar in hue and intensity. That coming from the back / right side (on the skull) might be stronger, and highlight a crescent Earth, and edges of fingers. That from the front left could be darkened, and one of them should have a different, more saturated, dramatic color. Edit: Rustedge's crit might be better fixed by closing a bit more the 3 right-side fingers, until at least one touches the earth. The problem is only 2 touch it presently: it would fall away unless strongly gripped. Edited by Manupix - 20 January 2010 at 4:09pm |

Thanks for the comments Manupix. I guess I don't understand the perspective issues you referred to. He's supposed to be looking at the earth. Tilting the skull up or down would seem to work unless it had eyeballs. Does the skull look like it not looking at the earth? I was trying to capture (as best I can) the thousands of miles between everything.
The anatomy issue you had I might be able to do something about. Those extra bones the other fingers should have are really there just underneath. I'll try to make them stand out more. |

Ok I feel better about this now. It was the red under the skull that was bothering me.
I know it's not perfect, but neither am I. :p If I find more time I'll tweak a bit more, but I won't be around a computer the rest of the week. If I'm not too tired Sunday night, I'll review the comments again and make some edits. Thanks for everyones help.

Lookin good
, still some minor problems like the face of the skull, the nose has very weird perspective and the right eye looks weird, it looks a bit scribbly or its just me, just some cleaning, finishing touches and voila .

I'm not sure if your too far along to change this, but the thumbs positioning is right. It should be more on the side of the hand. Right now, it look like a second Index Finger.
