Howdy Diego! Not really the right place for questions like that, but since we're here:

1) Yes, as with all forms of art, you should draw from life, whether from photos or the real thing.

2) Everyone's different. I generally start by blobbing in rough shapes and shading with a big brush, then refine my outline as I go, but there's no single "right" way.

3) I use GrafX2, but I used to use Photoshop. I would not suggest using Pixen--it's buggy and it crashes a lot and it's not being developed any more.

Hey, names Jordan, as you may have guessed. I am 13 and from Ireland I love looking at pixel art and said, 'Hey why not give it a go?'
So I download GraphicsGale, as you do lol, and started some tuts. Right now I have to say im bad. All I can make is a cube :P
I came here to practice my work and maybe read some tuts. If you have any just post here :)

hey there everyone... i'm igor from brazil... aspiring hardcore pixel artist (fancy way of saying noob :p) i do most of my works (fancy way of saying tries) in ms paint... dont really like those complex softwares... but sometimes i use paint.net and mtpaint... anyway if anyone has some tips on drawing... i'd apreciate...

My name's aerieyena, or aeri for short.  Christy if you feel like getting friendly.  I'm a college senior, history major.
I've been drawing in MS Paint since I was a kid and have been dolling for about seven or eight years.  Palettes have always been my weakness.  I mostly doll, but I do pixel work from time to time.  I've been a member here for a while, but I never posted anything until recently.
Pixeling is a hobby for me, nothing more, nothing less, so I wouldn't consider myself an artist in that respect.  I'm just here for the fun of it. :D

Ah, the meet & greet topic. Hi all! I'm a hobbyist game developer with his feet firmly into his 8-bit gaming memories. My plans are to recreate some of my old-time favourites and give them a polished new jacket. I've checked this forum a few times and I'm impressed with the level of support fellow spriters give each other here. I severely lack pixeling experience, which is the main reason I haven't coughed up any game on which I care to label with my name. I hope to gain some experience here to get the ball rolling - in between my job, upcoming parentship and being involved in an authoring project.

By the way - I can log into the forums just fine, but I can't log in to the gallery section. I've submitted a support message for this, but I fear that one didn't even arrive (mails to have my password reset do not arrive either). Does anyone know someome on this forum who can be contacted with a personal message concerning these issues?

I'm John Mollman, and I've now been getting into the pixel art scene. I live in Cincinnati, OH, and I'm currently a freshman in college.

Pixel art has always facinated me because you can virtually create a world from your imagination on a canvas at a size of your preference. I can only do buildings and whatnot, and am currently working on a city landscape. I'm going to call it Digital City.

Aside from digital art, I enjoy listening to uplifting and progressive trance. My favorite artists include Armin van Buuren, Blake Jarrel, Dash Berlin, etc.

I look forward to visiting Pixel Joint frequently to check up on the latest and greatest pixel art.

Newbie here, I go by SG2 out in the wide world of the interwebs. I'm 22 and majoring in interactive media, and I hope to someday be able to create my own games with my own pixel art. Unfortunately I have no talent when it comes to custom work, and have always worked as a sprite editor...I read the rules and didn't see anything against that, so I hope it's alright. I always give credit to the source games I use in my editing projects.

I think I'm pretty good at editing, but I'm by no means perfect and I hope to learn a thing or two from the veterans around here in hopes that I can be more confident in creating my own 100% custom pixel artwork some day soon.

Hello to all the pixel pushers in pixel joint. I have recently discovered this site and the wonderful artists here have inspired me to give it a go. So i´ll be posting what i've done soon.

Some thoughts on pixel art.

There's something I really like about it, the whole process fells like craftworks. It requires a lot of time and the effort pays off. I wouldn't dare to say that it is the Arts & Crafts incarnation of the XXI century in computer generated graphics but it definately has that nostalgia for the lost contact between the artist and his work.

I found this site when I was pining over the fact that some people on Minecraft think that they're pro just because they can recreate the NES megaman sprite by matching pixels, and someone linked me to here for legit pixel art (since the only other place I knew of was the #pixel site which has been dead for a while now.).
