The creature's planet became darker and darker due to atmospheric changes, thus it's eyes became useless. It grew a pair of ears so that when it sent out high pitch sqeaking sounds, it was able to accurately sense it surroundings from the echoes, much like bats do. As a result of this, it's teeth played a much less important role in capturing prey, since it's head was now not as flexible due to the newly developed ear muscles/nerve cells, so before losing it's genetic code for teeth, it started growing three blades on each tentacle, which were stronger and deadlier; more efficient for capturing prey. It is thought that when it's diet changed from carbohydrates to proteins, the muscles in it's leg became become stronger and more rigid, as proteins are essential for muscle growth.

with the heavy duty claws and sonar they traveld in to caves, so they could communicate well. they went in further and further and eventually couldn't catch the animals that they usually killed because the animals didn't go in that far. they had to become scavengers and that far down the cave there was lots of shallow pools. they got snouts to shovel up the gravel at the bottom of the pools to catch the bugs underneath. their single foot developed in to three suction toes and they grew flippers behind their claws so they could move better in the water. they also grew a light on top of their head to attract fireflys to squash them with their ears and eat and unfortanatly their unfunctional eys moved up towards its own light . and their claws grew smaller as they didn't have that much function anymore. phew!

For defensive purposes, it became less saturated to blend more with the ocean. Its' eyes also developed for better detection of predators, and its' more defined body shape and fins allow it to move more efficiently through the water.

And then he decided to get a bit cooler...

One of them was bored to walk with its small legs, so it tried to use its tail to move ...

I know mines crap, i was bored.
Basically right, its tail became more structured from all the jumping. And its legs were un-needed so they buggered off, then its arms extended for use as balancing aids. It's eyesight and hearing developted because birds kept picking them off cus they were bouncing everwhere. Tada.

but it was very exhausting to always climb back into the tree so wings were evolved. and soon, these animals lost their visual sight, and they had to learn to trust their ears. >BATS!!1
