There should be a dark area under the sea, then that could be one of the enemies there. Nice style aswel Saiklor, although it would be a bohotch to animate. At least, it would for me anyway. And yup Shadow Wolf, you're right. I'll do some more work on it. Edited by Larwick |

yes, I am a newcomer to sprite art, but not art in general. I never
played all the games you guys talk about (I never had any systems other
than computers and gameboys thus my childhood was spent on dial-up text
only computer games back in the late 80's/early 90's and then a lot of
commander keen and a few others). I've never really drawn small because
I don't see the point of it, but if it's for a game I guess it makes
sense.
Anyways :-) enough about me... so how do you animate? I mean, are there programs and stuff you can download for free? I could try and fix it and animate it if someone would point me the right away (maybe it'd be easier for me since it's my kind of style and I'm used to working with it?) anyways here he is without any outer AAing (whoops) and with the glow removed and, do I HAVE to make the style match the others or is this an open call for various different looking sprites? I mean change mine to the one-pixel outline and flat/cell shading and whatever else I failed at? ![]() |

If you could match the style, it would help keep the game consistent and be easier to animate. I use UnFreez to animate; all you have to do is drag the frames into the box in order. |

haha thats so adorable.. in a vicious want to kill you kinda way only thing i can comment on is the 2 pixels that disappear from the tail.. yeah, oh and also it'd be cool if he moved up/down a little to show that he's in the water |

I like the machine gun wielding octopus idea. Could definitely use him though with some cleaned up lines and colours. Shark
Umm... that's one mutated shark, Shark. and... no Larwick
Exploding fish bomb rocks my socks off. Perfectly coloured and animated I think everyone agrees. The little fishies are great to and could add to the background atmosphere. Good job. Make more Monkey o Doom
Animated sunfish could use some animation makeover but is good otherwise. The seahorse barely looks like a seahorse... could be of use without the gun as well. Again, great for background atmosphere. Wannahlakujuu
I think the style of dimensions of the game were lost on you Saiklor
I think this also doesn't reflect the style and atmosphere of the game though they are well done We need to get some more focus on the larger enemies and boss characters. Let's see what you've got gang |

Aye, well, this looks like a pretty cool spriting project. I felt like contributing, so here's an eel swimming. Check it out:
![]() I might make a biting animation in a little, but it's getting late. I don't know if this is quite the style you want, but it could probably work. |

If the main outline was all black, I think it would look similar to the style.

Well, I made the outline black, and there's not much difference to the look. But I'll post it anyway I guess:

Nice stuff Arcanum Edge! I'd usually avoid using dithering on a sprite so small, but the eel looks gnarly- well animated and nice texture effect!

Keep in mind fellow spriters...
Not everything will be an interactive part of the game... For instance, we could use those seahorses as background motion... Just something to think about... |

I don't know if this project is even going on anymore but I have a sprite to show. It's the boss shark guy. I think I am pleased with it but I'm pretty sure I have lost the "style" you guys have used. He is supposed to be holding a gun but I don't know if I'm good enough to even attempt that :|

Lol, sorry rabidbaboy, didn't notice it before >.<
I think the turtle, with a bit of work to fit the style more, would be a very nice addition. However i think the fish has a few problems, like the jagged structure which would be hard to animate... etc. And i don't think it could fit the style as well.. if any of that helps, then hurrah! |

Turtle just need some dark outlines and a bit contrast, thats it.
Edit:
Ok, I tried to fix it. Hope you didn't mind. I am still not quite happy with the higlight, i tried to make it underwater but..
![]() I tried to animate it also, but my animating skills are not the best. Someone should turn that into a gif to see how it looks.
And I added two fish concepts too... Edited by inkspot - 28 July 2006 at 4:44am |

rabidbaboy>> I wouldn't take the lack of feedback onto
your sprites but due to some kind of summer break phenomenon or
something. It could be more active here I think...
the sprite>> The colors aren't sexy enough I think. Some hue variations can do wonders. Since the eye is the most important aspect of this sprite I would underline it with some contrast to the rest (in brightness and maybe saturation) so that they nearly glow. |
