Hi. My name is Dean, I'll be 30 soon (yikes!) and I've been developing retro freeware games over a decade now, primarily as a hobby.

This is some of the "pixel art" I produced over the years.

I was mainly running in place regarding the quality of my pixel art because I never took an analytic approach to it and and mainly winged with it.

I finally made up my mind to seriously work on my pixel art skills from now on, because game design is my passion and I want to be able to develop my ideas without depending on other people, which also I can't nor want to pay as I create freeware stuff.

Hoping that I will be able to improve considerably in 3-4 years and maybe release some decent games in the meantime.

Thanks for having me!

Sup kids? My name's Max. 20 years old, hobbyist programmer. Ive tried pixel art before but I wasn't very good at it and I didn't really practice much or pursue it unfortunately.

Anyways I've been wanting to start working on a few new projects and in anticipation I want to polish up my skills. Check for me in the WIP section here in the next few days hah.

Hello fellow pixel artists. I am a amature pixel artist that lurks on the internet finding random "jobs" on the way. (aka: making art for unfinished games).

here is some examples of my work.

The name's Mike. I'm in my early 20s, and I've been drawing since forever, starting pixel art specifically when I was 13 or so. Due to a lack of practice I'm not near as good as I could be at this point, plus I rarely share my work with anyone, but I have been trying to do so (that is, practice and share my work) more consistently in the past few weeks.

I've known of PixelJoint practically since its inception, but never thought to join the community until a few days ago. I hope to share my work, improve, and get to know a lot of fellow artists here.

Let myself introduce... myself.  My name is Ashbad; I'm 16, an ameteur pixel artist, and a (big time) brony.  I started doing pixel art seriously (as in, not 8x8 monochrome tile sheets... :P) about 2 months ago, and I've been loving it.  I've been at the pixelation forums for those past 2 months, and finally came over here as well!  Here's some of the things I've made:

(My last "complete" piece; still planning on going back for a few hours and refining the AA and colors now that I've learned how to do anti-aliasing better, and pick more interesting colors.  Plus more things, but mostly those stick out as bad right now.  Also working on dropping it from 34 colors to as near to 24 as I can)

And since I've improved a lot over the past 2 months (at least, as far as I can gauge) this is probably the only other "decent" pixel I've made since then I want to post:

(Sorry about the zoom of 2x >_< )

Well, I'm working for a few hours a day to improve my pixeling skills and art skills in general since I've never done any sort of art before pixeling and traditional art skills carry over to pixel art very much (if not almost every aspect besides medium-specific techniques) so right now I'm waiting for a few super-recommended drawing books to come through the mail and working on more pixels until then ^_^

Yeah, I like to do a lot of MLP fanart, which I've taken heat for once or twice but overall the pixel art community doesn't seem to care that I post my pony pixels much, which I love.  Of course I want to move onto other subjects like skyscrapers and modern architecture in general, and nature scenes but first I'm going to try and improve my traditional art skills a bit before I go wild with attempting such things.

I guess that's my intro post!

Well, hi. I'm James. I'm 16, and I'm a programmer. Sorta. I hope you guys are as harsh critics as I've heard, cause if I'm gonna learn pixel art, I need to learn how to do it right. So then I can be a talented asshole, just like (most) of you guys. Er, no offense. Well, I bought this Wacom Bamboo and I've gonna plague this forum until I master this sh*t. Yeah! So when I post things in the WIP section, I want you guys to go full Simon Cowell. Don't apologize either. Even as I silently sob on my keyboard and kick my desktop tower (kidding?). Thanks!

Hi everyone! My name is Chantelle, and I'm an illustrator slowly moving into pixel art territory.

I've known about PixelJoint through GameDev.net for a long time but I'm just now making an account here. I hope I can contribute to the forums :)

This year I will be going to the Montreal Comic Con and New York Comic Con for the first time as an exhibiting artist (and hopefully the World Fantasy Con too!) Will anyone else be there by chance?

Hi I'm Paarth and I'm 20. I was once being immature and ego of me being a better artist and neglected most of the feedback. But now thanks to my senses and a good companion of mine, I realized that drawing isn't my thing and so I decided to take drawing as a hobby rather than a profession.

I'm aspiring to become a great game designer/developer one day and I hope I make games that you and everyone will enjoy. After all creativity is the insane possibility.

here is my blog. retro-artwark.blogspot.com

Hey there, doubt anybody will read this but I always post in the introduction topics first.

I'm not very good at pixel art, but this seems like a good place to get started.  Already started browsing through these galleries and everything looks so great. Hope to join you someday.

Oh and, here's the project I'm involved with, that let me stumble upon your forum here: http://creativegametheory.com/

Hello, I'm Drew. I've been pixelling for about a year, but I still consider myself an apprentice. I've joined this website so I can get more thorough and in-depth feedback for my pixelart (because honestly getting feedback from my peers, who are 13 and 14, has proven ineffective). I look forward to meeting more people!

Hey there oldies and fellow noobs. How's it going? I'm Mason, aka Puck on the internet because irl identities are boring and overrated. I'm a 19 year old dude who likes to pixel a bit in my spare time. I've been doing it since I was at least 13 and think I have gotten a bit better at it since. I'm a gamer and attempting to be an indie game artist.

I've been into pixel art since I was a small child, growing up on NES games and the like. I also (ATTEMPT BEING THE KEY WORD HERE) make retro/chiptune music in my spare time as well. I'm a geek for coffee, creativity, cute shiny rainbowy things, cartoony animal furry things and music. I'd say I am a fan of (insert genre here) but I like to be varied so I won't. This is indeed my first post here and I hope to stay a while and get to know you all as well.

Hey, my name's Bruce and I live in Massachusetts.

I joined here to get some tips on animating pixel art to use as sprites for a MUGEN/other type of game character.

I looked around a lot, joined other sites, but the communities for almost all of them were extremely hostel towards new members and were incredibly unhelpful.

I found this site by accident, and I've scoured the site for a few days, and the community looks very friendly!

Nice to meet you all.

I'm from Brazil, living in the capital. I like to code stuff and draw some pixels, along with messing with electronics.
My passion for pixel art derives from my passion for vintage videogames and computation. In general, I'm very fond of the cultural scenario of the 70's, 80's and 90's, I find them very true in their particular cultural elements in terms of music, television and, as a very specific interest area of mine, computers.

Being a student of electrical engineering, I've found myself inside a very fertile atmosphere of inspirational mood, because electronics is not only the basis for everything in recent culture we love the most, but gave us the spin-off of a vast "pixel universe".

Let's pixel.

P.S.: If I made (certainly made) some mistakes in grammar or spelling, I apologise. I'm still refining my foreign language skills.

When it comes to doing pixelart, I think I'm "decent" at it. I'm particularly bad at picking my palettes. I've been lurking this place for a long time, I joined so maybe I can get some tips/practice more/do challenges and sh*t.

Hello, neat individuals! Obviously I'm new here. My name is Sam (username is Sajextryus but Sajex is more than fine) and I'm 17 years old.

I started working on pixel art just a few months ago (around June) and have been trying to get back into art and such since this February (before that, I hadn't drawn or done much of anything for years other than photography and making some Photoshop designs every now and then), mainly since I felt I should branch out in new ways to try expressing myself since I was sure there was more I could do than what I was. A little while after I started trying to teach myself to draw by practicing every day in a sketchbook, I decided to try taking on pixel art after seeing some pixel art styled videogames and found myself appreciating the artwork of such games for it's polished, minimal yet descriptive designs. I haven't really looked up any tips for making pixel art (or just art in general), so so far it's just been adventure of experimenting until I get something that looks right and feels right.

I've been planning and starting work on trying to make a game (currently just something small to test out some design concepts I have in mind and see how people like them). I've never really studied coding very much (not enough to remember how to make something working from scratch), but I have saved a C# programming book about making games and other kinds of software for people with little experience from about 2 years ago and I've started trying to teach myself. That should be interesting.

I've joined this forum as I've seen quite a lot of very well designed pieces of pixel artwork coming from the users of this website, some of which I must say is inspiring! I still feel like I need to practice more and that my pixel artwork could be much better, so joining this forum can probably help me get some tips on developing such artwork and ways in which I could make things look better or more proper.

Sorry if the intro was a bit long, but I like being thorough I guess!

Here's a couple of things I made that I feel look good enough to present:

Yo, I'm Tiffany. I'm a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. I stumbled upon this site looking for some pixel art inspiration and I found it!

I can't say that I have really been into pixel art as a hobby, though I've always appreciated it, but never delved into actually making it until very, very recently. I've only created a few things, mostly hybrid images mixing pixel art with textures in PS.

I have really enjoyed makes the few small images so far and look forward to exploring isometric renderings and getting feed back.

You can see my illustrations, pixel arts, random sketches here: http://urbanping.tumblr.com/

You are a bunch of talented folk!!!

I already posted a job the first day I joined, since I love pixel art and as an indie game developer (programmer) I need all the help I can get.

Well at least I can improve your dreams by paying for some of the work I need.

I'm 30 (and still young at heart) using GameMaker8.1 and GameMaker Studio + HTML5 to make my games.

Looking forward to make some great friends and collaboration teams with you!!

Hello I just signed up today.

I do a bit of digital illustration / graphics production / cartooning in various different styles. I also do some 2D animation. I've done a little bit of pixel art but I want to get into it more because I want to get into graphics production for mobile games in a big way.

I have ambitions of making my own game, in collaboration with other people (ill need to team up with some programers no doubt). I'd love to make something like ifighter or Super Laser (both mobile games by a team called EpicForce).

I have started doing a couple of jobs online, making graphics for mobile games, mostly working in Flash and Illustrator, but I feel like this kind of vector artwork lacks the beauty of old-school arcade style game art.

I need to learn about the different kinds of artwork for mobile games and how to make it: vector versus pixel sprites - how to best combine the two to allow easy resizing for different platforms, while retaining a nice 2D sprite appearance. Also I want to learn about background creation as well as character / obstacle creation.

So that's basically why I am here.

Ill post a pic of the only real pixel art I have created so far.

Hi everybody. My name is Michail (or just Misha, or in english Mick), from Russia, 28 years old. Hope you will exuse my english. I am a big fan of 8-16 bit video games consoles (nes, gb, snes, genesis), so the pixel art is very interesting for me.
Friend Iceberg posted some his works (very good works) on one forum, I saw them, I have an interest, and I am here. I have done some not well works already, but I will trying to make it better.
Pixel art for me now - just my third or second hobby, but I try to give serious for it. My first hobby is music, I play guitar and bass and trying to write some tunes.

Hey all! I'm Talbot, and I'm real happy to be here!

My interest in pixel art stems from a love of retro games. I'm trying to develop my art skills so I can develop some games to share with friends and, maybe someday, the public.

I'm from the southwestern U.S., and my hobbies outside games include all the standard redneck pastimes. I do a lot of work on my family's ranch, and I come from Cherokee lineage, so in addition to being really conflicted when playing Cowboys and Indians, I'll likely draw a good deal of inspiration from those places, both in my art and my storytelling.

I can't wait to get to know you good folks, share my works with you and become a better pixel artist along the way!

My name's Catghost, or Cat for short. I've been pixeling for about 6 or so years, and it's one of my favorite art styles. I also paint and am a graphic/web designer too.
Mainly I work on my site, Midorea.com, as the lead creative director so much of my work is Mido-related. Sometimes though, if there's time, I'll do some personal pixel art. That's pretty rare now though.

Currently attending college for a degree in 3D modeling and game design. Dunno what else to include, but yeah. Nice to meet all of you!

Hello everyone, I'm wrangler249, but you can call me Mitch ;)

I studied Computer Games Design & Production at university, and have been trying to break into the industry ever since I graduated (no easy task, let me tell you...).

I've posted up some of my work here on Pixel Joint:

NullSleep
Quine title screen mock-up

And if you're interested, you can see my portfolio here

Hi, nice to meet everyone! My name is Rose and I'm a 2D artist in the game industry. I work in a variety of styles and media, but I only dabbled a bit in pixel art. Decided to finally join (been lurking for a while) so I can learn and get inspired.

Here's my portfolio in case anyone was curious.

Look forward to being a part of this community!

I just watched your portfolio and the "hand on stone" is amazing! I do both pixel art and drawing, and your style really reminds me of mine ;)

Good day fellow artists!

As I am using your forum for searching for an artist I thought I might wanna just introduce myself, even if I am not a pixel artist at all :)

I am a long time sprite & pixelart lover from europe, been into playing video games for 15+ years and now onto developing my first own game! I did my Bachelor in informatics and sadly I am not talented at all in doing art stuff myself. I even need a PC for drawing a constant line from a to b because my hands are not steady enough for doing it with a pencil :D

So..I did a little research of places to find awesome artists and found out that this might be the best place on the internet to do that...

Have a nice weekend!

OH HEY, I'm Molly. I'm totally new to pixel art.
I'm the community manager for a game called Starbound, and being around all those pixels has made me wanna pixel. So I'm pixeling.

Started today by drawing a pear, and with some pointers from a friend I was able to get it looking a little less crap. :D I made a progress gif!

Hello. I am Fish20. I have been making freeware games since I was 10 (mostly abandon ware.) My finished games have terrible pixel art, but here is abandoned/unfinished stuff:
