Hi, I'm Shadowdrake from Texas, USA. I, uh, I'm generally a lurker but I love all kinds of art, so I'll probably post more art than actual posts.

Hi everyone! I am Sinuo (21/USA). I have just discovered pixel art and am interested in making fantasy landscapes, but right now I am am an absolute beginner to art in general.

GraphicsGale is my software of choice and I am using it alongside a free application called Palette F**k.

If there are any other beginners age 20+ then feel free to hit me up if you want to share tutorials / knowledge(or lack-thereof).

Hello mirkats! Here is a tutorial called "THE Famous Cube Tutorial". It teaches basic lines and shading fairly well. The tutorial also uses MS Paint, but feel free to use whatever software you like best.

Also note that each side of the cube has a slightly different shade of blue to give it a lighting effect. This makes it look more 3D.

Also feel free to head on over to pixeljoints tutorial section which is here. While the on-site tutorials are great, don't afraid to scroll past the first seven and look at some of the off-site tutorials as well.

Hello folks!

I am a recent graduate in Japanese & Painting, live in New Zealand, and hope to get into making games in a professional capacity.

I grew up on the amiga, megadrive and arcades (RIP), so my admiration of pixel art goes back a long way. I've been doing pixel art as a hobby since I was a teenager, but haven't touched it for the last four years or so.

Right now I'm scrubbing off all the rust and trying to get my drawing confidence back and then, if all goes well, get involved in some work!

Pleased to meet y'all.

Hello everyone :)

My name is Siegfried Croes, 23 years old and from Belgium. I had an account on this site a long time ago but never really posted much cause I was busy with other stuff.

I've studied Digital Arts and Entertainment where I learned to make 2D and 3D graphics, programming in C++ and a bunch of other things like animating, storyboarding, video editing,...

At the moment I'm working as a Multimedia Designer in a company that makes E-learnings and educational games/applications. I do programming (Flash, Unity C#), 2D/3D graphics, animations and web design.

In my free time I (try to) make my own games using Unity :D I've tried doing 3D a few times but it is too much work, especially if you are doing both art and code yourself ;)

A while ago Unity introduced native 2D tools and I started making a 2D game. I've always loved pixel art a lot, I remember back when I was like around 10 I loved doing pixel drawings in MSPaint :P

I've mostly been doing code for the game but since this week I switched to artist mode and started reworking my character sprite. I remembered this site and decided to come back so I can get feedback on my work and to be inspired by others.

I wish you all a nice day :)

Hey PixelJoint,
My name is Christian, also known as 'Adoa' from my graffiti writing days. Im based out of the San Fernando Valley here in Los Angeles, CA. Before i broke my ankle i was heavy into cycling all over LA both Fixed Gear and Road. Literally just found pixel art and was like holy cow the amount of time going into things is a huge! I've already started compiling as many tuts i can find about pixel art. Hoping on designing a card game with pixel art in the near future since it'd be cool to see what i made become reality. Any tips on how i should start learning to pixel push? Very much appreciated, thanks!

Hello guys !

First of all, my sincere apologies for my english, I'm french and therefore not a native speaker.˛

I've been lurking here for a while now and I think it is finally time to register.
So, I'm RavaTroll - obviously - and I've heard that I'm kind of a pixel artist. I mostly was a well known "artist" on the flash game Everybody Edits ( my profile : http://everybodyedits.com/profiles/?/ravatroll ).
To sum up this game : It's just a regular platformer where players can create ( and share ) their own levels by placing different blocks and various hazard/gravitychanging/special blocks. Each block has a minimap color so you can draw pixel art on the minimap.

Here's a small showcase of my previous works ( Big pictures only shown as links ) :

A banner for a french forum :

Some unfishinished artwork with my own tilesets for an unfinished game, meant to be an EE clone with slopes and more features. Sadly, our developper had no time to work on it so we never had the chance to finish this game. This was supposed to be the "final look of the game" :

Actual screenshots from the alpha ( bigger pic ) :
http://i.imgur.com/DcEi8pj.png
( Character art and the orange and brown sci-fi texture with high contrast weren't mine, but from two friends. )

Monster design - 10 years ago VS now :

One of my Everybody Edits level with a "crew" : ( I was in charge of the "art", they were in charge of the ingame challenges ) :

( You can see it ingame here : http://everybodyedits.com/games/PWrAEJNqJja0I )

I'm currently working on a big tileset for fun, hoping I can share it ( and perhaps monetize it, who knows ? ) with indie devs.
Here's my last preview :

So anyway, I may release some preview of my tilesets here - without the "RavaTroll-Spam" thing on my previous picture ofc.

I guess I'll be seeing you on the forum and pixel-joint sooner or later, so : See you !

Hey there. I've been around a while but not very active -- the last time I posted was .. geez, 2009, but I don't think I've ever actually introduced myself.

I'm a programmer/artist with a degree in graphic design. I like pixel art, but haven't more than dabbled after the 8-bit era ended. One of my artistic goals for this year is to get more serious about pixeling again.

Heyo all!
I'm Toby, or Wonkyth on the web. I'm a game development student in Sydney, Australia, and am typically somewhat graphically challenged.
I've recently been on a somewhat vague, meandering quest of skill-getting, which I have decided includes improving my pixel-pushing abilities from "humble" to "adequate". As practice is the surest road to improvement, I hope to at least doodle something every day, so with any luck you'll be seeing me 'round. :)

My name is Paul and I run a game and app development company in Scotland called Pixel Sword.

Before starting my company I worked at Proper Games, Dynamo Games and Ninja Kiwi, in the sunny city of Dundee, Scotland. Currently I'm working on a project called Pixel Raiders and I'm hoping to get my pixel art for this game critiqued.

Thanks

I spend most of my days animating and spriting stuff for Secrets of Grindea. On my off days from pushing pixels I do enjoy to go on adventures, watch MMA and play video games!

See you around dudes!

Hello folks, I'm a 21 year old currently residing in Orlando, planning on making my way to Colorado after graduating this coming April. I don't really do pixel art anymore, although I do the occasional thing when I have the drive and time, I've moved on into the recording engineer direction, but still love to give C+C on pixel art, as it's still something I'm pretty interested in.
You can expect me to talk about music a lot though, I love to talk about music. And someday I think it'd be pretty cool to produce sounds for games.

My name is Alexei (Алексей), a 24-year old programmer who's trying to get better at spriting. I have a game in development built on the mugen engine that I frequently find myself needing custom sprites for. Now, I'm no artist either. My background is in web development mostly, but I know the mugen engine and many other programming languages well. I hope to learn some new things here and plan to post my sprite progress.

Thanks for reading. :)

Hi everyone! I've been a gamer since the good ol' NES days, and still a fan of pixel art and the games that have'm. On Newgrounds.com, there are two games of which I had worked on, of which my roles were artist, programmer, and game designer. They can be found here:

Alucinatio: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/618834

Final Warrior: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/616633

Currently, there's a remake of Final Warrior but that's been put on hold until I move overseas for a job (thus having more of a budget to work with). Since that had happened, I'm making sprite art for another small project of mine, and using Graphics Gale for the first time (Photoshop isn't really a sprite maker friendly program, IMO).

Anyways, I hope to learn a lot from everyone here :)

Hey, I'm Mike.
I'm a game developer learning pixel art, and thought this would be a great place to learn from.
I've actually lurked around here for a while, and I've used a few of the spritesheets for my little personal games I've made. I've been drawing cartoon and comic book art for a long time (pencil & paper. Not digital), but pixel art is a little tricky to me, as well as using the computer to draw. Hopefully, I'll learn a lot from this site, and I'll be able to make my own grand pixel art for my games and not have to hire some Joe to do it for me. :)

Hello, my name is Kyle. I am a 30-year old Canadian and have just begun to work with pixel art. I have intentions to develop games, but when making graphics for them I realized that this is something I am quite passionate about. Now I'm working to use a simple system (Adventure Game Studio) so that I can focus on the art. I have very little experience drawing, it has not been a hobby for me in my life nor have I ever taken classes on any visual arts. I am grateful for this community for all the incredible free information I have found here.

Hello everyone, I'm Donnolus from Puerto Rico, excuse my odd writting pattern, I mainly speak Spanish. I love games and study Game Design, I hope to be able to live off of what I love one day.

I am new to the pixel art scene and have lurked the forums for a while, not really involving myself with any activities as it all seemed very intimidating at the moment but I figured, "what the heck I can't learn if I don't get involved, let's give this a shot." and so here I am. I hope to share and learn with you folks.

Some of my favorite games (related to pixel art) include: TLOZ: AlttP, Minish Cap, Chrono Trigger, Starbound, Castlevania:SoTN, Super Metroid, Fusion, Zero Mission, Pixel Dungeon... Well I hope you get the jist of it. >->;

Hello, I'm Rachel! and I'm from North Carolina (how boring)

I'm brand new to pixel art, but I've been drawing in general for a while. I'm going to be creating graphics for a friend who programs (I've mostly been sketching concepts so far, but am now trying to get into the actual art.)

I decided to join because this seems like a great place to get help and advice c:
