Update on this guy:

Midnight update!
Image is 4x again, since no one complained the last time. Not sure on the proper etiquette yet...


I'm mostly done with my narcissistic version. I think I might "re-skin" it with a larger fro and different character if I have the time. Thanks for all the feedback on the much less finished version, though!

I'm pretty happy with how the 3d effect is shaping up, since this is my first ever spin animation. The lower half looks a bit like I'm snowboarding, though (I think the center of mass is slightly off).

@offwhite: Thanks a lot! Your animation is much better, though! I really like the finished version.
@Nate K: Your palette work is fantastic. It feels like it could be at the beginning of a retro video game (in one of those cutscene sequences).
@everybody: These are all great pixels. I feel like a complete noob now.

... I can already tell my 1920x1080 res is going to be a problem here.

Yeah, as I mentioned, I kind of realized it wasn't enough of an afro to work in the comp. If I do submit something, it'll be a "re-skinned" version with a real afro and a different character, but probably the same animation.

And I'm aware I'll have to crop. I just usually use a 48x80px panel for characters. This is still a WIP, so I figured it didn't matter while I was still using my chromakey color for the background...

Well, I'd say it would be fine to submit as a normal piece (crediting Graindolium ofc)
Might be stretching it for the challenge. If collaborative pieces were allowed, that could mean that pieces with 336 hours of work were submitted (as opposed to 168). Obviously slightly less went into this one, but I think we'd rather not set a precedent.

Had some time to do this quickie between work and uni.


Let's see if I can find some time to actually finish this.

Platyfro is in nonchalant-WIP mode. Work to doooooo, we'll see.

   

Arrgh... this weekend was too hectic, and I never got a chance to reskin my character with an appropriate afro. Oh well, good luck everybody else!

Also, Graindolium, your turnover is fantastic! Though I'm sure you meant them as a joke, there is some really good work in them. Afroffiti - it's a new art form.

Yes, it looks like a totally ripped version of my Afro Duck, and yes, that was the point.  Makes my wife smile, so that was the goal.

It's an original character.  Just not the most original design. All of the fro parts are redrawn with my patented afro poof pencil brushes, the nose eyes and bill just share the same characteristics (which, when dealing with afro'd waterfowl, is as acceptable as using the same sprite base/face for RPG characters, cmon!)

But yeah, disqualify it if you have to, I owed Surt and myself a companion to go with the ducky.

That made me giggle to my self quietly for 5 whole minutes. I have no idea why.
