The correct way to build ground shadows is relatively easy though.
Just draw lines, and see where they hit the ground. Here's an example:

1 - original WIP image
2 - raycasting a bunch of key points
3 - correct shadow
4 - you can try to tweak a bit to get cleaner lines and more detail. for example, the overhang of the roof.

Edit: I used a simple 1:1 step because it's easy, but you can see that it makes the shadow a bit wid/big. If you want to save tile space or something, you might want to try a 1:2 step to get a much smaller shadow.

Many here use PS to pixel.
You are likely just saving your file when you're done as a png file and PS will output png24 by default which can/does alter colors.
Either output as a gif or as mentioned before 'save for web' then choose png8 or gif.
Working in index mode with the palette imported or manually added works too.

Nice job so far.
Try to work on coloring lineart or working in them so the collab is not set up to have all 'black' outlines.

E: explore the palette too so that your tile is not overall one color as it is at this stage ;p

Mr_Hk, I have some zombie bodies in that corner but they'll only affect tile #20 I think. And I am planning to draw grass all over the ground. If you are planning on some other ground cover like sand or water, I can draw transition, no problem.

You can only take tiles with a complete neighbor now. 69, 84 and 85 are best candidates.

@DuckPsycho, in my opinion your tile needs refining :) For instance, the tentacle from the hole looks flat and needs to have shading that conveys its round tube-like shape.
Now as for me:

That's all I have so far. Will refine it further and probably add something.

Those outlines are very bold for this collab. Maybe consider making them brighter and harder to notice?

Maybe do something along the lines of "eeny meeny miny moe" with your possible tile number choices? Or you can maybe toss them into a list randomizer and pick the number that the randomizer selected as number 1 :)

I'm not sure what else to add to the tile (apart from maybe cracks in the road). Any suggestions?

@metaru & magpie; you can pick any available tiles but the ones I suggest are: 69, 78, 92 and 93.
