I'm sticking to my story. The beach ball was spinning, and even my professor had no idea how to get it to actually do something. And the next day the whole computer was gone from the mac lab. |

Oh, that.
One fun thing to do, on an older OS 9 computer, is hit Apple+Alt+Esc to bring up the force quit dialog (effectively Mac OS's Ctrl-Alt-Del) and then unplug the mouse. OS 9 had some sort of brain-damaged system where you could only click yes or no to get through that dialog, and it superceded the routines for recognizing usb devices (such as mice). Good fun when somebody is in the middle of a massive project and hasn't saved.

Speaking of neat constants, one can approximate e probabilistically with the following method:
1. Keep a running total of the numbers in the following step.
2. Generate random real number between 0 and 1.
3. Repeat 2 until the sum is greater than or equal to one.
The average number of times step 2 is executed will approximate e.
Neat, amirite?
