Alright, so I've been perusing the pixel gallery for a while now... and I'm thinking... when's the awesome going to end... I look down and the computer says not for a couple more hundred pages... and this was during a search for RPG related material

Sad thing is that I actually play a lot of indie games, and I don't see many of these sprites anywhere.  Now I was just wondering about who successfully turned their pixels into games.

Pretty much no one. But we do have a great deal of people who made artwork FOR games, commercial games. Badassbill, jalonso, Atooi, just three random names off the top of my head.

I wish more artists would submit their game art under a permissive license, like cc:by or the GPL. There's so much great game art here sitting unused, locked forever behind draconian copyright restrictions.

Most of the work here is very much unfinished, but i think that if anyone wants to use any of the pieces here, they're allowed to if they just ask the artist.

For some people. For some people code is much easier than pixels.

Sorry for the 2 month bump, but this is still on the front page.

There are plenty of people who have turned their pixel art into games.

I (while not a great pixel artist, I'm decent) am working on one as we speak, and I've been developing indie games for 10 years.

The greatest example of this is Joakim Sandberg(http://www.konjak.org/). He created Noitu Love 2. He started with Noitu Love (crappy game imo), and received a lot of praise there. Now hes created Noitu Love 2 and he got a deal to get it ported to wii.

Also, Brian the Great, disagreeing with a fact is pretty retarded.

I find making games to be about 100x easier than making sprites. If I were as fast and skilled at making sprites as I am at making games, I would release well polished games on a monthly basis, but i'm not so I get stuck in the loop of not getting anything done or quitting early due to lack of skill and art.
