Here I am again. What we have:
NOT "colour reduction" because I traced photo by my hands, step by step. Redraw darkest area, then added 3 gray tint:
If I get it right, tracing photos not against the rules. Besides I honestly indicated reference image: http://la.guestofaguest.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/tom-waits.jpg So, is it against rules or not? |

Tracing is allowed. However, the level of tracing you did means that not a lot was really done by you skill-wise - the different tone outlines have been traced, so it's easy to see how it could be confused for a reduction. The end result basically looks like a touched-up reduction but took a lot more time :P
Anyway, you'll find a lot more personal satisfaction from just looking at your reference. Always make sure to post the WIPs in your description if you're going for photo-realism, to avoid any confusion in the future. |

I don't agree, but will not argue. The question is: how avoid being accused of reduction next time? How to make WIP correctly, pixel by pixel?

an even better way would be not to trace. it's not improving your rendering skills, and if it becomes a habit it will only retard your progress as an artist.
