I started this today after some pencil sketches of different types of Greek armor. It was interesting because I've never really studied the look of ancient Greek armor and didn't realize how fascinating it is. Also, to my surprise, the armor looked a lot different than I've seen in a lot of media.

Anyways, I wanna make sure the anatomy looks good before moving on much further. If ya spot anything weird or wrong, please tell me. It's still in its early stages, but I do want some opinions on it. Thanks!

The only thing that's really jumping out at me is that the legs look a little too short.  A good anatomical guideline to keep in mind is that the crotch should be quite close to being the midpoint of an adult's body.  That means that a person's legs should be approximately as long as the rest of the body, including the head.

Another thing is that the torso looks a bit stubby to me, at least compared to your reference.  I feel like you could slim down the waist a tad.  However, this might just be an illusion caused by short legs, so I'm not sure...

The pose in your piece came out looking stiffer than the pose in your reference, although to be honest it's hard for me to figure out what would fix that.  The only thing I'm seeing is that in the reference, the foot in the left is uprooting from the ground somewhat, whereas in your piece it (appears to be) flat on the ground.  Also, take note of the fact that in the ref the foot is pretty close to facing the viewer, whereas inyour piece so far it looks like it's facing in the opposite direction of the other foot.  However, I might just be misinterpreting your sketch.

Good luck. : )

This looks great so far. I agree with showtime, except that I don't think the torso looks too chubby.

I think the horsehair is a bit assymmetrical, being too low on the right side and too high on the left side. After all, his head seems barely tilted at all. The curve of the shield is a bit weird too.

Thanks guys! Your comments are a big help!

@Showtime: I too felt the legs were a little on the short side. Does the pose look that stiff? I'm trying to make it less stiff, but I don't know how. About the foot; its kinda just a blob now lol, but good note about the reference foot.

@CELS: Thanks for the kind words! I'm unsure about the torso width. It doesn't exactly seem chubby to me, but also kinda does?! ... Maybe it should be one pixel thinner? I agree with you about the asymmetrical thingy. I can't seem to get the head tilted right. It looks misshapen every time I try

@Alex Pang: Thank you for the encouragement. I hope I get it finished! I've gotta stop being a lazy ass and actually finish stuff.

Once again thanks. Edits/comments/critique are all welcome, especially for tilting the head/stiffness of the pose.
