do you make a palette before the picture or does it just happen? i'm asking this because i'm wondering how people go about staying within 256 colors. i was also wondering if there was a standard 256 color palette out there that people generally used for games and such?

theoreyes...
I usually start with the generic palette that Graphics Gale gives me for 24bit graphics. Then as I move along, I start to change certain pieces, thus creating my own palette as I go. I rarely use more than 20-40 myself, like snader most of mine are closer to the 20 colors... Unlike snader, my hair is not colored... So you take your pick... |

Scene... depends on what you are doing...
See the more colors you use, the more chances you have of screwing it up... At least that is what I have picked up as my time in newb-land... Keep it simple. When you get confident doing shading and detail in 10 colors, adjusting up for more colors will be easier... But as a beginner, knowing when to use the 14 different shades of brown for a shadow on a leather belt is just too confusing... My opinion... |
