Hi peeps,

I'm trying to get out of my low-resolution comfort zone and came up with this little scene.  It's nothing special and I'm interested in getting feedback as to where I can improve.

I used Dawnbringer's 16 colour palette as a basis as I'm still learning about ramping but seem to have messed it up.  It also feels very flat and too cartoonish to me, but I'm too close to working on it right now to make any useful judgement.

I'd appreciate any comments or tips! :-)

Hi,

No expert here, but this is my opinion:

Well done on the guy on the left, the expression and gesture are very easy to read. My only concern with him is the very sharp line of his jaw.

The second guy is not so easy to read. Is he making signs with his hands? What is he wearing? It looks a bit like a fur to me, but it's blue so I'm guessing it's not a fur.

There is also a small white object in front, is it a broken bottle? A glove? I'm not sure. It needs to be clear what it is.

As far as I can see, the wall on the right is what mainly gives the perspective of the scene (a one-point perspective), but the two larger buildings at the back (especially the one on the left) don't seem to completely agree with this perspective.

I hope my comments will help. It's a nice little scene.

Hi,

Thanks for the good advice!  I do have problems drawing hands and clothing in sketches, so I guess this follows through to pixels.  The guy on the right is doing some sort of strange gang handsignals in my reference picture, and he's wearing a puffa-style jacket, but my shading is confused there at best because the reference was so dark.

The white object was just put there because I felt the scene was a little too clinical, I guess its a paper or wrapper :-)

I see now that the perspective is totally weird on that building, silly error that completely passed me by until you pointed it out so thanks!  I will work on the hands more and try for some more definition on the paper.  I am finding that because of some premature decisions on palette choice I am struggling to find good midtones for smoother shading.  Still, it's early days.

EDIT: To avoid a doublepost, I'll put my revision here.  I tried laying out lines to help me with perspective but I'm still not sure its correct..
