Hello guys!
Wanted to share with you my latest small project, that might be helpful to someone. I called it Color Ramp Creator. It uses HSV model with hue-shift option and color richness adjustable correction. Also, you can choose from three color ramp size option: 4 colors, 8 colors and 16 colors. Color Ramp Creator has a real-time preview image, so you can see right away how would the image look like if you would use current color ramp (please note, that preview image always uses 16 colors). Enjoy! ![]() http://pixelfor.me/crc |

It works rather nicely, but then how do you export the result ?
The simplest I could do was save the preview image but it has only 15 distinct colors. (otherwise I should make a screenshot of the ramp) Also, do you think a gamma correction factor could be added ? Some ramps tend to have multiple very similar dark colors, an extra slider for gamma would help balance. |

About exporting I was thinking if it is possible to make a palette file out of the resulting image, but I fount that creating a whole palette file that consists of only 16 (or 8 or 4) colors is rather unnecessary. Next, in terms of saving, I could try to make the resulting image savable. If it's a cool feature to someone :) In my thoughts I was thinking rather to adjust the sliders, see the results, and use the hex color codes for making your own color palettes, that may consist of many color ramps. That's how I make my palettes by using my tool :) Gamma correction. Yes, I was thinking of it, by adding extra +- controls to the first and last color in the ramp so the brightness of them could be adjusted. I will definitely add this in future. |

"use the hex color codes" : Do you print them somewhere ? I don't see
them on the page (2PCs, Firefox v3.6.3 and v12) though the HTML code seems to plan a place under the colored boxes.
Gamma correction is something else, it has no effect on the first and last colors. I just checked your sample image (16_shades.png), it's a 15-color image... http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/49328.htm As nice pixel art as it is, it might be more faithful to use an actual 16-color image. And while searching for a candidate, you may want to pick one where all colors are equally used, roughly. ![]() The lightest color is used for only 205 pixels, the stone highlights. The 5th-darkest color is used barely more, in the original it gives a subtle teint in the intermediate colors of tree trunk. |

I will check why whey do no shown in ff. also, I will look for some other picture with more balanced use of colors in it. If you found some, I will appreciate if you will post them here. Thanks! P.S. what program was used to get a color histogram? Edited by RemyStarlight - 28 June 2012 at 3:29am |
