I'm working on some new shading styles for my sprites, I experimented a little and I got this:

Please coment on it (Nothing on anti-alasing though, this is going to be in a game so it won't really fit right)

Its a little jaggy and the eyes are to big or bright (can't determine which). Otherwise good job.

I know about the jaggy edges, You should have read the last line of my first post, and now that I look at it the eyes are big, but they're supposed to be bright

Fixed:

Your sprite was so captivating once my eyes landed on it I could not get past it to read the last line.

Looking at the chest, I have a hard time finding the lightsource. Try to keep it defined throughout. Not bad foot area and head though. Lovin' the eyes.

RPG is numberwang.

Thank you guys, I'm glad you like it. Someone on another forum wanted me to lighten it up a little,so I did, and I changed the lighting on the chest a little

Fabric hangs and overlaps. There are more to folds than horizontal lines creating a highlight on top and shadow below. On the left is yours and on the right is my strange ability to get carried away with edits. I'd rather you look at it and understand it rather me explaining all of it because you'd probably learn more and I'd probably have to type less. So I'll just say the things that bothered me the most.

If you think nothing is obstructing the fabric, you're probably wrong to think so. Don't forget that gravity pulls everything downward. The fabric will "try" to get to the ground and it'll take the closest route there. So with the bottom half of this robe, I figure there's more fabric than meets the eye. It's not stretched around his legs, or else it'd just look like a long skirt. It's loosely hanging off his frame and the fabric wants to go straight down. To go straight down, it has to push some parts inward so each spot on the bottom edge of it can be as close to the source of gravity as possible.

And gray isn't an interesting color for the most part. Try to avoid using it.

Thank you for pointing that out, but I think I'll stay with the gray, All the concepts for him are gray, a NPA drawing of him is on the title screen, which I forgot to save the PSD to, and he's all in a dark gray/black cloak, but I took your folding advice

What I believe Blick is trying to say about the grays is that true grays don't go over well visually. There is always another tone of colour in a gray. In his example, it is a blueish gray. I think his example proves his statement, IMO

nah. just a slight hint of blue works the best, maybe hunching towards turqoise, but not green. greens should be bright and cool
