Here's how it goes...

I use a program called COREL PHOTO PAINT (similar to Photoshop, but with a horrible layer system I haven't figured out how to use yet!) to do my drawings. However, I don't use any advanced resource to shade things or color, apart from the transparent brush (can't resist it!).

There is no "color count" tool in this program, so what I do is to see how many colors it shows when I save as 256 colors GIF format. To my surprise, the drawing on which I just used about 10 colors has something like 67 colors or so, according to the GIF counter. There is R0G0B0, R1G1B1, R2B1G1 and so on... Is that normal??

If it is the case, how many colors should I consider? The ones on my palette or the ones the program says I used but I dont see them?

I'm saving it in GIF format. Sometimes I also use PNG, but I'm not sure if there is a color count available for that format when I save. I never used JPEG because the colors get all messed up. I only use JPG for high resolution pictures.

Wow, that's useful to know, my sister downloaded that a few days ago for some other reason.

It's a great tool, it can even view .swf and .txt files. It's really in a category of its' own.
