there isnt really a light source here - the shading is pretty much the same on both sides, but it's good shading, so I'm not complaining.  I love the texture and colors of the roof

The hut appears to just be pasted over top of the tiles. I think you should have the dirt pushed up against the side of it to make the transition from wall to ground a bit smoother. And as leel said, there's not much of a noticable lightsource, especially when taking the roof into consideration. The left side of it should be darker and maybe have highlights on a few individual strands or clumps on the right side/top of the roof.

to me it looks kind of strange with such a light roof and dark wood on the bottom. maybe it's just me....and yeah, adding blades of grass or weeds or dirt around the house would make it look like it belongs more.

I think you should spread your colours around a bit, get the most out of the palette. To me it looks like 4 blocks of different colours, and none of it seems to work together as well as it could.

The tiles look very secret of manaish. Not that thats a bad thing. I agree with everyone else that you need a beter defined light source though. I look forward to seeing this progress. keep up the good work.

Those trees look awsome. The shading on the hut looks much better but i think it still needs work. The left side of the hut should be darker. I like the grass at the edge of the hut.

im not sure the trees fit the style, the grass has lots of detail,
whereas the trees are jus block shading. add some rocks in the
grass aswell the break to up repetitivness repetitivness repetitivness
repetitivness repetitivness

Really nice improvement, especially with the idea of the hut having overgrowth around it rather than being in a square of the dirt. The palette really goes together and gives a really nice Vietnam sort of feel to it to me, with the yellow showing up not only in the dirt, but also in the greens of the grass, brown planks and straw roofing.

My problem with the trees so far is that on the trunk, in most spots where there's a midtone, there's also a highlight. It degrades from the feeling of depth in the trees, I think. Not every "section" of the bark has to have the highlight color in it.

Changing the wood of the hut to stone was a good choice, although I don't feel the thicket of a roof fits the look of it anymore. That's something easily overlooked though.

Maybe drawing out a few leaves with the midtone in the shadow would help. The shadow appears in the midtone in places to give the appearance of more texture, but it seems a bit abrupt for the same not to happen with the midtone getting a little into the shadows.

Also, what kind of trees are these supposed to be? The form of the bark, I just realized, is very tumor like and different from any tree I've seen before.

Yes. The trunks strongly resemble my fecal matter.

The walls look awesome, like some sort of abandoned lab, yet they make the straw roof look a little off to me. You really should be able to make a varied second rock aswel. Looks fantastic though.

I'm not liking how the roof continues past the walls so much. It has too much of a pagoda roof look to it. Maybe cut off a couple sticks from the ends and/or shallowing the curve of the roof.

Omgozzles, i've found myself rather liking the weird new roof. It looks sort of oriental, i mean, if that's what you aimed to achieve then that's great. I dunno if it's a bit dark tho (the roof)

i would love a little tutorial or a how to  on how yuo did that grass because there is something about it that is driving me crazy. it looks so simple with only 3 colors, but at the same time very detailed and realistic. it looks like you made lots of 3d grass bunches and pasted them over each other.

i, myself, liked the 1st update of the straw roofed hut better than the others. i love what you have done with the trees. how ever the one all the way on the left looks a little empty compared to the one on the right. the dirt needs work

It has a good texture and all, but with so much height on the grass and in the shape its in, it looks more like a dense forest of palm trees to me.

I don't really like the new trees, I actually liked the swells of bark they had.

The new house looks good, really pulled from the old straw roof as I can see.

thanks for the tut man. I knew that must have been how you made them.  those tiles are really convincing. it gives me lots of ideas. i a m wondering if the same style and process could be applyed to a side scroling platform tiles with the same effect... i shall try. thanks
