Hey, sorry if this is in the wrong section, this seemed as good a place as any to ask. So I've come across a few bucks and was wondering if it's worth investing in a cheap tablet for pixeling. At first I was really excited to do it, but now I'm starting to wonder if it would really help at all. What are the advantages/disadvantages? Mind you I only have enough for the cheapest one (my girlfriend's birthday just passed lol). Thanks!

If you happen to know someone who has a tablet, ask to borrow it. Also, keep in mind that the less you spend on your tablet, the less functionality it might have, and the lower the sensitivity it might have.
It takes a bit to get used to, drawing in one place and watching your creation come alive somewhere else altogether. You might not like using the tablet at first. I know I didn't (and I'll be honest, I haven't touched a tablet in quite some time). |

Thanks for the feedback, I think I might wait... It's not a necessity lol, I was just curious if it made a difference.

I dont doubt that it would help a lot, but I rarely use mine. As gorrila said its hard getting used to it, added with mine not functioning properly (the blame is on my crappy computer not the tablet)are some reasons I dont use mine that often. While it is nice to sketch out the rough areas in new pieces and making more natural and flowing shapes it is hard to control exactly where each pixel will land. So for the finishing touches I like using a mouse personally.

You too have a crappy computer? Lol I know dem feels. So I'm actually looking at purchasing a brand new computer, and keeping this one as a back up or something... This computer is so slow and damaged lol. It's been a good friend to me, but it just doesn't get the job done anymore
So instead of buying a tablet, I'll look at buying a new computer |

Sometimes it just comes down to what you're pixeling, such as for large scale works I always use a tablet. The freedom a tablet gives you enables me to work quicker on a larger scale, but for smaller works it's easier to grab a mouse and get a more exact result, usually after laying down the groundwork with a tablet. Whatever works for you I suppose.

I picked up a cheap Genius F350. It's small 5x3 inch tablet. My gf has a larger one but that bothered me due to all the arm movement, but you can do everything from the wrist on this one. I frequently use it in day-to-day life too instead of the mouse. Works fine on win7. That's just my two-cents.

Using a tablet is more comfortable and better on your wrists in the long term.
Also, once you're familiar with a tablet it becomes a lot easier to flesh out a sprite quickly, especially if you're used to drawing with traditional media at all. I can't imagine doing pixel art with a mouse anymore. It's just so incredibly slow by comparison. In your case, a Wacom Bamboo tablet is probably the way to go.
