I would like to get into pixel art but im discouraged by the fact that i cant draw for the life of me.Ive dabbled a bit in pixel art making heads for a mobile game called graal and the results were amazing to me but far off from what i can see here on pixel joint. Basically what im asking is should i continue trying to become better in pixel art or should i invest my time in learning how to draw then revisit pixel art once ive become good at drawing.I feel like if i continue learning pixel art without knowing how to draw properly ill eventually hit a wall and wont be able to progress any further.

Before you make any decisions be aware that Pixel Joint's rules are just arbitrary musings and not pixel art edicts. What you see in the gallery is simply a form of pixel art.

For now just focus on becoming a better artist overall. Pixelated is just another medium.

Anyone can start pixelling, but a background in drawing will help a lot. All 2-D art shares the same fundamentals, and these are easiest to learn via drawing rather than pixelling. If you can't draw, you won't be able to pixel very well. You can always try both.

Being good at drawing will help but you don't exactly need to be good at it. I don't know how to draw at all, I'm sure it would help but it's not a skill you NEED to have.

The more you do whatever, the better you become at whatever- there are multiple paths anyone can take to that goal.
Whether it is pixels, graphite, paint, chalk, poop, etc- you're chasing the same types of results, so as long as you start somewhere you'll be on your way.

I doo like the poop medium.

Color theory seems to be rather important when you have to pick only a few colors and make them count.
