I took the upscaled 2-color outline I did of the cat sprite I have in my gallery and tried to add some shading and AA as practice.

So far I think I'm up to 10 colors because I had to double up some colors for the transparency on the outline. If it's more than 10 colors, then I need to cut back until it's 10 because I'm only keeping of 10 and it's a little hard to do because GIMP just layers transparency on top of what's already there instead of replacing the pixel with the new transparency value which is great for photos but very bad for semitransparent pixel art because you have to keep track of all the opacity values in your head and completely erase pixels before replacing it with a semitransparent one.[/minirant]

The outline on its back near the left and right side look a little thick, I think I'll lighten up a few pixels on the inside of the line.
The left edge looks too straight, but I'm not sure how to fix that without bathing the entire area in banding horror.
I'm a little confused about how to shade something like this. I'm trying to picture it in my head but so far it hasn't gone so well.
I'm not happy with the bottom left edge of the tail, I'm still working that out.
I can't tell if I'm over-antialising on the inside of the cat.

As always, any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

Here's how I would've gone about using AA on your cat sprite. (left cat is new and right cat is old)

There was one color that was just too weak to show anything to help with AA. That color was the second lightest grey.
Also I noticed that you were using AA outside of the outline, usually you don't do this. In some cases you might.

Wow, that made a really big difference. I'll definitely keep that in mind for the next revision. Thanks, Meapers.
