I wanted to make a sidescroller mockup using dawnbringer's 16 color palette. I'm working on the hud and my face just seems really grey. Does anyone know how to improve this? Or any other tips would be appreciated

First, don't work with such bright backgrounds, it will blind you from finer details and balances.
Second, make sure you decide on the direction of the lightsource. If you're going for any level of realism, it dictates almost everything. Third, colors are relative. All the red in the hair and clothes are bound to wash out a bit of red in the face. Framing the face with more of neutral grays or complementary blue/cyan can help bringing out skin tones. And yeah, with so little skin showing...using a big slab of gray in the middle of it, might make it look a bit drab ;) |

goodness, when I went over it the first time i started with a light
source on the left but when I came back I switched it to the right :/
How did I not notice that?
I think I need to get the shading right first, then tackle the color...Ignore the right lens and the cape. My current biggest issue, the face looks chunky to me and I can't seem to fix it, any tips would be appreciated. I'm also not sure how to shade the chest, it's mostly shadowed but I don't want it to be a dark blob or cheat and drop the cloak down and cover it. ![]() |

DB got almost everything. I am unsure about how your horns are, they look like they are resting on the head rather then coming from under the hair... I am unsure how you can fix that.

The highlight on the cheek is pushing that part of the cheek out.
