Hey all,

My name is Jaron Kong, and I'm one of the developers on a small game dev team. For a little more background, we've gone to various game shows and have published on Steam (See the game here), so you can expect us to follow through.

We're starting work on our next major project and are looking to work with a dedicated artist to shape and improve our visuals.

The project is tentatively being called "Hyper Drift" and it's sort of like spaceship gladiator-style combat. Here's a screenshot from Twitter of our prototype, all art assets were made by myself.

The current ship designs are passable, but not really that great, and that's where you would come in. Here are the specifications.

Assets:

Ships:
six 256 x 256 spaceship images. Symmetry is ok. Normal and specular maps will be generated by us, so you don't need to do all that bright lighting shown in the image, just make shaded sprites and we'll work with you to tune things to optimize the cool-factor of the normal maps.

Arenas:
Arenas are the stages where the ships fight each other. They are simple boxes with 4 walls and open space in the middle. The sides of the arena can be tileable, a crowd box for instance repeated across each wall. The middle of the arena can be tileable as well.

Arenas are the most up-in-the-air asset, and there are lots of possibilities, from metal coliseums to frozen ice domes.

Misc:
There are many other assets such as UI and pickups. These are important, but the Ships and Arenas as the priority. If interested in the job, we'll certainly talk about this stuff too.

Worth mentioning is that while I'm primarily a programmer, I have some art experience in various mediums, so if you've ever had that feeling where you're talking to a non-art person about how to make something pretty, that should hopefully not be a problem working with us.

How to contact:
send me an email: jaronkong[at]pentavera.com
( replace the [at] with @ )
Include within your email the following:

  1. Sample relevant works.
  2. General area you live ( I just need to know the time zone ).
  3. Past work/projects.
  4. Monetary needs ( are you freelancing, a student, etc. ).
  5. Contact address ( if different from what you reply with ).

As far as the all-important question of payment. It really depends on the quality and speed of the work you can produce. We have a budget in the couple thousands of US dollars to compensate you though. It's not a ton of money, but it's not minor change either, so please apply with that in mind.

Also, while I like working casually, we plan to monetize and publish this game. This means there will be contracts involved to make sure we both get what we want, and as a result, you must be legally able to sign contracts, which means being over 18 in the US.

Thank you for reading this, and thank you in advanced for taking the time to send me an email. I'm always amazed by the incredible talent out there!
