I apologize if this is in the wrong section, but I felt like it'd go here. You see, I'm bloody horrible when it comes to drawing - never really did any of it growing up and never really learned about its very many concepts. Yet I want to give pixel art a try, though when I just look at all these amazing creations people have made, it just makes me think "I could never make something like that", but I mean that a lot more on being able to draw just the OUTLINE itself. Just the shape and structure of some pieces I could never imagine coming up with myself or even think of drawing in such a way to portray the image as it is; vaguely speaking. I think I probably answered my own question, but it'd be nice to see the input from professional pixelers.

You don’t necessarily need to be a great artist outside of pixel art to become a good pixel artist.

…but it damn sure helps.

Pixel art is just another medium of visual art. The same principles that make a painting, a photograph, or a drawing look good apply equally well to pixel art. Only the actual techniques for applying those principles are different.

Fortunately, those principles can be learned. Some people struggle with creativity more than others, but that's something you can train as well, it just might take more work.

You don't need to be a good non-pixel artist to become a good pixel artist, but you'll find your non-pixel art skills growing along with your pixel art ones, because there's so much overlap.

You can already start with ISO pixel art, or dolling. They require much less the "eye" to represent an arbitrary shape - the first one because it relies more on geometric shapes, the second because you start with a pre-existing figure.
It will not help you become a "generalist" artist, but it can give you a motivation to keep drawing and learn more things.
