Hi,
I am going to be ordering a pixel astronaut with 4 animations. idle, run, jump, and dead (collision with wall). The character needs to be a somewhat detailed pixel astronaut, as cool looking as possible. And the run, jump, and dead animations need to be zero gravity like hes doing it on the moon. I'm sure you can make the running and jumping look zero gravity, as for the death, just make it look like hes floating down and gonna land on his back, or if you have any better ideas please do that. But first, I would like to know if you could just make one quick sketch/outline of how the astronaut looks, so I dont have to spend the money and not be happy with the outcome, and you dont have to do extra work. Please let me know. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/cf/e1/cc/cfe1cc9f83a763574ae7518f1f85e2da.jpg I would like it to look like a pixel character of the astronaut on the right. Does not have to have as much detail as that, since that would be hard, but something similar. It should be facing to mostly to the right, but not completely. Please let me know how much for everything, and if you'll be able to do a free outline so I can see If I like how it looks. Thanks |

You can't jump in zero gravity (the moon has low gravity, not zero- or micro-gravity). In zero-gravity, if you launch off a surface, you'll just keep going, there's nothing dragging you back "down" to the surface. In zero-gravity, astronauts always make sure to stay tethered to a surface and avoid launching/jumping as much as possible for this reason. In some sci-fi movies I've seen magnetic boots used as an explanation for how characters can walk relatively normally in zero-gravity, but these wouldn't help in jumps because if the magnets were strong enough to force a jumper to land, they'd mess with their instruments.
What is the gameplay going to be like? That'll determine how these various animations will look, and how much work the artist will have to do (that latter bit is pretty important for an artist to know ahead of time xP). By the way, you mentioned you'd like to see a free outline ahead of time. Do you want a cartoony style that relies on lineart? Many artists don't use outlines for non-cartoony stuff (and some don't even use them for cartoony stuff), so if you specify "outline" rather than something like a sketch, you might be pigeon-holing yourself into certain styles or working with certain types of artists. |
