Internship in Stockholm as a Pixel Artist at Hammarhaja for a action mobile game(Hammerwatch Coliseum), this is a partime-time-internship
and you are going to work from distance. Go ahead and contact me(PM or at nordgren@hotmail.com) if you are interested. The internship starts around august to november. Qualities that are needed: - Able to draw the Hammerwatch-style, art test will be provided - Most preferably working in Photoshop - Able to tackle a lot of different parts of art: Levelart, UI, Aniamtion and solving art-related issues you might encounter. This is a perfect opportunity for a person who is fresh and wants to get into the game industry. You will have released something professionally in your resumé for future endeavors. Link to the game: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.hammarhaja.hammerwatch.droid :) |

this sounded just like :
"This is a perfect opportunity for me to use a person who is naive and wants to get *** into the *** by the game industry. I will have released something professionnally, making money, not you. Good luck with your future endeavors." I'm not saying some won't be fooled by the old "publicity" trick to get 4 months of free work. But if you're a pro, act as one ; artists aren't slaves. :) Edited by daLk - 15 July 2015 at 6:25am |

daLk, this is a internship, not a paid position.
I hope that this clear. |

"Internship" does not imply "unpaid". An internship can be paid or unpaid, what makes it different from a regular job is that it's temporary and there is an emphasis on job training. (Legitimate) unpaid internships often provide some other reward, such as college credit.
You have not mentioned what you can offer to the intern, aside from something on their resume. What can you teach the intern that they can't learn somewhere else without having to do a ton of free work for it? What makes your company even worth having on one's resume? There's no prestige associated with your company at this point (that is, yours is not a company that, when it appears in the resume, instantly makes a job seeker look better, unlike e.g. Blizzard), so why would someone want to pay you (with art) just to have your company's project in their resume? Hopefully that clears up why daLk responded the way they did. You're asking for work and are offering nothing in return, but are phrasing your post as if you are, and it sounds like you're offering an internship just because you don't want to pay an artist (internships are a position in addition to a paid position, not a replacement for a paid position). It's fine to offer unpaid work, but it's very shady when a for-profit company does it, and it's only natural that people would be wary. Edited by eishiya - 15 July 2015 at 7:42am |

I agree we are asking a lot from the candidate for free work.
I cannot guarantee that there would be a compensation for the work the intern would do. I also want to highlight that I do not work at Hammarhaja but only cooperating to find a person that would be suitable for the internship role, but I will make sure that your critique will be noted for Hammarhaja :) |

Good to hear you're aware this is indeed free work (given requested skill level), and a totally unfair proposal... Thank you for notifying Hammarhaja they are not good guys.
Yet, you didn't deny them your help (sincere or bought). If you're "only cooperating" ; you're only sharing the responsability. Please, also make sure that the critique will be noted for the betterment of your own ethics. "slavery is bad, m'k ?" :) |

Note that this may not even be legal. At least in the US, if someone is in an unpaid internship you are not legally allowed to use any of their work. Of course I don't know how things are done over there (and I am not a lawyer).

To satisfy curiosity.
Here are the six factors considered by the US Court: The internship, even though it includes actual operation of the facilities of the employer, is similar to training which would be given in an educational environment. The internship experience is for the benefit of the intern. The intern does not displace regular employees, but works under close supervision of existing staff. The employer that provides the training derives no immediate advantage from the activities of the intern; and on occasion its operations may actually be impeded. The intern is not necessarily entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship. The employer and the intern understand that the intern is not entitled to wages for the time spent in the internship. Edited by Uberlion - 22 July 2015 at 11:09am |

I can't imagine there's anything to be gained in an internship working remotely. Also, most legitimate internships would be found through your college/university.... I'd consider this borderline scam

Yeah, this is just a play with labels - trying to redefine theft/slavery into something positive. "Internship from a distance" - are you kidding?
I've seen a lot of sh*t in the PJ job-ads, but this has to be the dirtiest one yet! I think at very least this ad should have to be rewritten in a very clear and honest language or the mods should remove it. |
