Hello, my name is Nicolas and I am an indie game developer.
I've been working on my own indie game since a while now and initially planned on doing the pixel sprites and graphic stuff myself. However, even though I did progress on this matter, I noticed I needed much more time to do quality content and making the game (plus the full engine because I don't like using pre-made engines) already takes a lot of time. Therefore, I finally decided to try and look for a pixel artist to work with me. There is no company involved at the moment though I will have to create one when the game will be sold. I am working alone on this project right now. Your job as a pixel artist would be to make all the sprites needed including animations. Keep in mind that this is a full game project, I do not want to be forced to work with multiple artists because the first one left at some point. If you accept this job, you will be recquired to work from the beginning to the completion of the game. Now for remuneration, I would prefer for lots of reasons a revenue split/share BUT I can understand that this is a problem for most of you and I am open to discussion on this topic. However, if you came on this topic just looking for a random job to get paid you should look somewhere else, I want to work with passionate people who loves making games. Also, I can imagine that you might want to know more about me before thinking about working on this project, it is indeed not a small task, so let me talk a bit about myself : I am currently 20 years old, I've been programming for over 6 years now and also studied in this field though I usually learn everything by myself. I am also a musician, which means I will be making both the program and the music/sound effects. This is my first game but the whole point of it is to raise funds to make bigger and better games in the future, I would really like to live from it. If you are interested you can contact me by either replying here, sending me an email or adding me on skype. Thank you ! Email : mesmeryx@gmail.com Skype : niko-dmmt |

FYI, revenue share is not considered [PAID] here. That mark is for work with guaranteed pay. You should mark the topic as [UNPAID] or [Rev. Share].

That is the reason I said I prefer revenue share but clearly mentioned that I am open to discuss it. Guarenteed pay is also possible.

if you're looking for revenue share you need to include a lot more information about a game. But I'd also almost guarantee that you're not going to find 1 artist to do an entire games worth. You tend to get what you pay for with those types of things. You might luck into someone working on their portfolio... but it's unlikely. I'd highly suggest looking at what you can budget, looking towards crowdfunding, etc.
Best of luck! |

I should probably clarify things because apparently the "revenue share" causes problems.
I am able and am willing to pay for the work but I would also like to give a revenue share. What I am looking for is someone who wants to make a game, not money, someone who would appreciate to work on a full project from start to end. This would not be "my game" even though I would be doing most of the work but "our game". Thus the revenue share thingy but I have no problem with payment before any release. And I will only communicate more informations about the game after talking with someone, it's difficult to describe it without going into details. |

There is not really "our game" most of the time. And you can destroy that nice feeling in 5 second if you eventually get angry, for whatever reason, with your artist (which is something common in many teams). Someone will always end up in a worse position (and that may just be me, but it tends to be the pixel artists). With time, that kills any passion and you end up not placing a single pixel if you are not getting paid decently. And I totally find that normal, understandable, and good.
In the second hand, I can also tell from experience that games tend not to get finished and you don't even get a published game (let aside the rev. share). This happens even to the best most committed artists. This is game development, there may be passion in it, but without money and/or public impact, I doubt there will be enough passion to even deliver a finished game. |
