Hi everyone!
I have done a sonic the hedgehog mockup, it is really finished but I wanted to get some feedback to see if I can improve it. I struggle a lot with volume, the image looks a bit flat. Specifically I want to practice shapes, colour and lighting. Thank you! ![]() |

Hi Clebs, Most importantly, you need some contrast! The player sprite needs to stand out from the background, for example he could be much darker or much lighter than his surrounding. Right now he has the same color as the water, making him near invisible. Having contrast between the different layers will also help with the volume.

Hi Hapiel,
That is an excellent point yes, contrast (value) is extremely important and I tend to forget that. Although I try to keep color count small and I wanted to follow a more desaturated style than the original Sonic. Will play around with the colors and see where I get. Thanks! |

The saturation is still quite high I think, it can be much lower in a lot of areas! This is my quick edit, hope it gives some ideas:

Thanks for the example, I did something similar by reducing saturation and slightly shifting to blue on the background and it really helped!
Now will try to polish my shapes a bit. |

The palette makes it look like a bootleg Sonic for C64
