General

my friend and I came up with a very unique idea the other day.
After loads of planning and argueing, here's what we have come up with

We're going to do an online rpg side scroller. Yes, I know. Sounds really weird, but we've got all that figured out.

We're only 14 so we dont pay, but if you get some free time maybe you could make a sprite here and there or a few sprites. You will be credited INDIVIDUALLY in the game credits.
       (ie. Billy - Buildings in this town , this armor set,  theese weapons, ect)

	woo! you already posted the topic! good job! now, i did write a bit of my story for the game but not a lot. I added some stuff about the inner conflict in the Atraiis. I'll post a thread on VBCity talking about the project, unless you already did that. (i havn't checked!)

Also, Im gana start working on the other faction (Dravion?) and the races/classes that go with.

	gamesquid, age has nothing to do with anything. that is not a valid argument at all. being as you are not an active pj member, you wouldnt know that.

	Well, age sometimes does, especially with programming. But what killed my interest was the fact that it will be programmed in VisualBasic, a language that is primitive and very unlikely to produce a high-end game; but I guess thats because Im a programmer. When you're 14 there's a lot of ambition for things like this, I know becuase I have been there. All I can say is good luck...

	fthmdg: First: Art is expensive. (In terms of time, I mean. Time is a cost, even if it isn't being translated into money.) Therefore, you need to create a design that minimizes your art requirements. Throwing more races/classes/etc into your design may make it seem cooler, but you need to find a way to make your game cool that isn't going to cost your volunteer artist(s) hours and hours of spriting work. Second: Most amateur gamedev projects fizzle out somewhere between "we have a great idea!" and "we have a working prototype of our great idea!" And nobody likes to see their art go to waste. So, make some stick figure sprites and make your game. If you come back in six months* with a demo that works and is fun to play -- even with your crappy programmer art -- you''ll get your volunteers. You should look at The Spirit Engine, by the way. It's a nice little single player side-scrolling RPG. This is an optimistic estimate. If you're not willing to work on this for the next six months, minimum*, save yourself some time and quit now.

Demon, I understand why you would think that, but i have actually made games before that had a clientside program as well as a serverside program, but no art. Yes it took a long time, and yes it was hard, but i got it done eventually.

	I don't think you should be put off because of their age. I am a 14 year old who has managed to code lots of PHP and MySQL sites. Something most web designers can't do. (I know this has nothing to do with web design). I would be willing to help if you still need it.
