I promised I'd make one some day, so here's what I got already.

This is what I need most C&C on. Maybe some tips on how to make it less bland?



And here we have the residents. That orange guy just walked in, and he's damn scared. I will shade this later.

Worked a few hours on this, and I'm kind of empty now. I was thinking of some south-pole-ish scenery painting on the wall, with th paint still dripping. Good idea?

Heh, this is definitely a different direction for a room.  I love your little penguin fellers. It's a little hard to tell if the fella is scared or excited. 

Maybe you could add some highlights to the wall to make it look more "icey".  http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&q=glacier

Time for update.

I tried making it look like a glacier, but it didn't really work out the way I planned. I stink in highlights in iso view. :(


I started out making him scared, but then I thought "mega penguins are too cool to be scary." So I made him say w00t instead.

And here's the full "what's new" list.
  • right wall & door colour
  • icecubes colour
  • painting on walls
  • highlights on snow pillow
  • shaded penguins and man
  • w00tcloud
  • shadows
  • lowered right wall
  • coloured outlines on occupiers
It's not really finished though, I'm not sure about the colour of the coloured outlines. :/

i love this one - i was going to comment on the shading on the penguins, but i see you've fixed that already

the coloured outlines look good to me, they provide enough contrast to make it all stand out

some criticism:

the walls - the clouds look very flat to me, and the sun looks a bit.. weird. not really a disc-shape.

the shading on the guy's body, specifically the shirt, seems to need some work. it doesn't seem to follow the shape of the body.

apart from that, it's great. very original idea.

Crits taken:

The only way I could think of to make them stay in the background. They would stand out too much if i added highlights.

i see what you mean about keeping them in the background - the treatment you've given them works well, i'm loving this piece

You seem to have misunderstood the isometric outline thingy... see the edge is lighter only when it's an inner edge. Not inner as in inside the object, but as in an inner curve. This edge here is an outer edge, and should be colored darker.

Big pinguins= big blatters, make a floor drain in each holding pin! Lookin good! Maybe some ice oth the top parts of the walls. I REALLY want the floor drains!
